Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Exactly. £70mill is getting laughed at by the barcodes...but that's what it will take IMO for the reasons you've said...he's English, 25, an international playing for a top 8 side.
Leicester are also in a bit of a pickle with FFP while needing to rebuild and sort new contracts out. It's in their interest to gain as much from Maddison as possible.

As @catcherintherye said, there's some odd decisions being made. To some extent, I think a more measured approach is prudent when you consider FFP.

The likes of Botman and Pope will improve them and they'll likely be a decent mid-table team, but I was expecting at least one marque signing.

Still may happen. But this super power revolution doesn't seem like it'll happen.

Basically could just turn them into a well ran club and a decent outfit which is a change from the Ashley reign. But an elite club being the "richest in the world" is all a smokescreen

Top 8 is where the barcodes realistically should aspire too. They’ve been up and down into the Championship on a few occasions but their fan base is the most delusional bunch you could ever meet.

Pope, at age 30, for over 10m seems an awful signing to me mate. Another one with no sell on value, and I'm honestly not sure hes any better than what they had.

It may happen, but we are 2 windows in, and they seem to be signing a mixture of has beens, average players or lads from relegated teams.

2 windows in City and Chelsea were completely different.

Lashing 50 odd million at Maddison is also completely stupid as well, and the opposite of spending sensibly.

New offer to Leicester of 50m for Maddison, they are playing Newcastle well here, I hope they say no

'Newcastle make second Maddison bid in region of £50m'

It’s like us with sigurdsson

For me, Maddison would be the first questionable “Everton” signing they’ve made.

That Maddison is hugely overrated. He’s undoubtedly got some great quality, but overpaying for mid table players is Sigurdsson-esque. Especially so, when they were after the likes of Etikite, signed Botman, Pope who are smart signings.

In a couple of years time I think they will be consistently in the top 8. They have some work to do on their infrastructure. Their training ground was one of the worst in the league. You can bet your bottom dollar in a few years they will have one of the best. Interesting to see if they will stay at St James long term as I believe stadium development is pretty restricted on the site. Although a move would be unpopular imo
