Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

You know football has changed when a Gulf State owned club who've spent close £300mill net are seen as underdogs in a cup final.
I thought they were breaking through this season? Newcastle showing profligate Everton how to break up the established order etc.

All I see is a team that went out the cup as soon as they faced a top 6 team, and are unlikely to finish in the top 4 (I’d actually bet on them coming 6th or 7th behind Spurs and Liverpool)

That will be 18 months of big spending on the likes of Botman Trippier Pope Burn Guimaraes Isaak Gordon. If they don’t make consistent CL football in the next 18 months then financial regs kick in, their revenue does not cover expenditure for the last 3 seasons, and they’re in a period of licking their wounds for 3 seasons selling their top players to get back within regulations (see Leicester’s current predicament)

Undoubtedly they’ve used the money they have better than us, but it probably won’t make that much difference. They’ve still not been able to attract a world class manager, and apart from Bruno and maybe Botman they don’t have any players that top 6 teams would want.

The only route to success in the short term for them is to fire Howe this summer, get a Tuchel/Zidane/Pochettino level manager, and go absolutely massive on transfers for world class players. That probably means paying huge wages to get them to come to a team that might only have europa league football. Then all your eggs are in one basket for a one season run at the CL where if you miss it you’re in a world of financial trouble.

Financial regs really have shafted absolutely everyone outside the sky six with their massive commercial deals and guaranteed revenue.

Have to agree really. The only thing they can do is inflate their revenue City style then hopefully be ready to hijack one of the top 6 if they have a flop season.

Can still do it this season as I think it'll be a shoot out with Newcastle, Spurs, the RS if they get their act into gear.

Champions league doesn't have to be the be and end all though. European football and trophies are always in reach. While Leicester have handcuffed themselves, I still see them as a modern success story having gone from a championship team, to premier league and fa cup winners, and European football.

I mean...Spurs dont have that.

Day 408 since the small cloob rejected me.
I've fired up my laptop (I have a cable running into next door neighbours garage hehehe) and see what big cloob vacancies there are....none......BUT WAIT... I see Liberpool are looking for a new finance department manager on indeed job vacancies!!!

If I get into the club shoop, working my way up to the boardroom, get back in with my best friend King Kenny who then puts a good word in and i start some rumours about Klopp having affairs with various players and that's why they've been so poor , I could be manager again for the start of next season!

I deserve a chippy tea tonight as a treat for my hard work.

Reminds me of Leeds spending up the wall, hoping it would get them the team for CL football, they missed out by a small margin, the financial trouble kicked in and have been a loose cannon ever since.

The way football is like with a big six, a corrupt TV company and grassroots being punished, makes me sick. Watch the Copa 90 film on Dover Athletic and what the chairman says about their points deduction being supposed "integrity" in the game.
