Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Gutted that these carts are getting into Europe next season but I hope it's not the Champions League as that will allow them to spend like crazy and that'll be yet another team to add to the "Big" Sky teams. Will it be the Big 7 now? So funny how they just keep adding to it. lol

It won't.

Look at Leicester.

Did lecister have saudi backing with unlimated funds?

It's where FFP stops them though.

Then they have to progress out the group.
Then they have to redo all their commercial deals.
They're already at 90% wage to revenue turnover.

It's all about qualifying consistently to generate the big money. This is the problem Leicester had after winning the league.

Newcastle Brown are in a much better position than Leicester to step up though. Huge catchment area, richest owners in the world, etc. I think they'll be there to stay unfortunately. The next Man City.

See my above post.

FFP stops them from doing "a man city" for which man city have been pulled up for due to over inflating there commercial revenue.

Newcastle will get a bump in revenue. But if they fail to get into the champions league again, they lose it. What it will do if offer some better commercial deals but in the scheme of things will be scrutinised heavily.

End of the day, they qualify for the champions league and they suddenly jump from 20th to 10th or something daft in the highest commercial revenue in football after 5 mins... something is dodgy.

I think their endless resources will ultimately grease enough palms that they'll get exactly what they want. They already passed the "fit and proper" owners test which ought to have been impossible, and they'll no doubt sponsor themselves to the tunes of tens of millions in the summer.

Maybe they'll get a few million pounds worth of fines in 5 years time, but that pays for itself. Maybe they'll build a world class squad with an array of £50m players on the bench, then get slapped with a two-window transfer ban, again wouldn't be an issue.

They'll do what is necessary to become the next super power and I really doubt they'll let a little thing such as the Premier League's rules get in their way. City have conned their way to about 15 pieces of silverware despite breaking the rules before their first trophy, and they'll not suffer from it even after it's all said and done - they're set up for future success with their academy, ground, portfolio of other clubs around the world to develop talent, etc.

UEFA wanted to ban them for 2 years from Europe though. City also had 10+ years of setting things up without FFP, then carried on bending rules when it came into effect. They got their legs under the table early.

Newcastle don't have that luxury, have Europe and domestic FFP to contest with. The closest they'll get is Spurs level IMO due to the restrictions in place. But I do think that will need more of a trophy push and consecutive champions league finishes to get to that level as well as no hiccups. Won't happen overnight

There's things in place stopping a new City or PSG happening.

I really hope those things work mate, I am just sceptical given what City have been able to get away with. Well, scepticism mixed with a lot of jealously to be honest.

They're gonna grow but they can't hit City levels. Them and PSG are probably the last club's to find themselves in the established "elite" before oil money took over.

I use Leicester as an example as they won the league, fa cup, and have been in the champions league/Europa League in the past 7 years. They have gained £20million more in commercial revenue than Newcastle every year.

Newcastle have 1 season in the champions league and suddenly claw that back unless there's serious financial doping ala City. Then don't forget... they're gonna have to spend more in market that's overinflated.

City won trophies based on Aguero, Silva, and Company costing less that £90million. Newcastle have spent £45million on Gordon. While transfer fees inflate... commercial money coming in doesn't really.

The structures in place are trying to stop that.

While I don't have the trust in the authorities that @kenada_blue may have, I do believe it'll be far more challenging for Newcastle to manipulate the money.

They've already said the test for new sponsorship deals will be 'a market value' rather than just association, so in theory they can't get someone to put silly deals in.
