Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Really?

You remember more than I do.

This club has played European football seven times since the ban was lifted circa 1991.

A miserable seven times.

And in the thirty years of European football before the ban we graced the European stage ten times.

In this century we have played six seasons in Europe.

In all, since European football was inaugurated circa 1955, EFC has qualified a mere 17 times.

That is a pretty disgraceful fact if you ask me.

So because we never competed under a penniless owner means we shouldnt be arsed now we finally have the means to compete that a club below us gets massive investment?

The same "just focus on us" attitude is what has seen clubs like Leicester & Wolves push ahead of us with plans and sound structures in place whilst we cream ourselves signing Bolasie and BK giving his blue blood trophy out every year.

Any businessman worth his salt has one eye on the competition at all times.

Coca Cola doesn't not give a damn about what Pepsi does

Likewise KFC doesn't "focus on themselves" when Mcdonalds open up a store next to one of their branches.

Dress it up however you like but IF this goes through its a big blow to a club like us - at best its another competitor for the already limited trophies/european spots & at worst its a Man City who overtakes us in the coming years.

The problem with one horse races in Newcastle is that that horse normally gets a good punching.
Legend is Bud

Wolves have a solid structure in place but what happens when their super agent wants repayment for where he’s got them? They’re not exactly winning anything either and just like everyone else they’ll sell their best players and their owners will sit on their PL cash cow for as long as they can. Leicester have signed some good players but once again they haven’t followed up their league win by winning anything else and that’s what football is all about. You seemingly are just happy with being “best of the rest”?

We signed Bolasie four years ago if you can’t see the level of change within the club since that time then I don’t really know what to say. We’ve made huge amounts of mistakes but many of those are exactly the same as what every other club has done when they’ve come into money.

Also, and a lot of people are trying to tell you this; you can’t just do a Man City or a Chelsea anymore, it doesn't work like that. That’s if this happens at all, there’s nothing concrete and if it doesn’t happen you’ve spent a lot of time worrying for nothing.

No.

You stated something which was factually wrong.

i.e. that you remember a time when we were “in Europe most seasons”.

You were set straight on the matter.

Show some humility and stop digging yourself in further.

I disagree - in theory its harder but as these USM "Sponserships" are showing its easy to get around the rules if you have rich friends (or in man Citys, PSG and the Saudi's cases) a load of rich state owned companies and airlines which can sponser your ground and kit to the tune of millions...

Dress it up how you like - the fact remains had Citys owners never turned up there and they were still circling mid to bottom table to this day - we would have finished 7th the past 2 seasons and therefore would have been in Europe each of those seasons thus giving us european football and increased revenue.

Man City getting that takeover effectively pushed us 1x spot down the table every season since which DOES have a direct effect on this club in terms of revenue, chance of winning a trophy, chance of qualifying for Europe etc.

Very true there are ways round this, but correct me if I’m wrong but I think City had a stadium naming deal to the tune of about £400m which got looked into and made the authorities slightly more wise to this. Probably something we need to be wary of too actually

Sheff Utd & Forest are/were not owned by the head honcho/backed by a SWF.

Man City and in this case Newcastle are really owned by the investment arms of their respective oil "governments".

Hopefully it doesnt come off like but it is a major concern for clubs like us, Leicester, Wolves trying to break into that top 6 cartel.

Its a shame BMD isnt done yet as having a boss stadium on the docks would make us attractive to these sorts of investors imo.

I dont think it matters where owners originate from. If they're serious, organised, install the right people and invest they can make inroads. We've probably done 1.5 of that list (0.5 serious given some antics and invested), hence our malaise.

Yeah something like that mate - however I dont think FFP will ever stand in a court room if they came down heavily on a club.

The problem for us is that we (I imagine) need to wait until BMD is built in 3-4 years time before we can benefit from you would imagine Usmanovs sponsership doping- whereas a club like Newcastle with an already big stadium could be bought out tomorrow by the Saudi's then next week some Saudi state owned company or airline announces as you say a £400 million naming rights to SJP which gives them an automatic advantage over us these next few years.

As I said all hypothetical- but I cant be doing with the fans we have who laugh at anyone who dares look at our competition and comes out with the 'just focus on our own club' mantra - as everything that happens to clubs around or below us will inevitably have a knock on effect to our club in the near future be it positive or negative.

One of Everton football clubs greatest downfalls since the PL era began in the early 90's was not adapting and doing what clubs around them were doing and instead we took our eye off the ball and never progressed off or on the field.

I've always thought of Newcastle fans as having Stockholm syndrome with their clubs own lack of success. Failing and being a yo yo club is their true identity. Being successful just wouldnt suit them.
