Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Why are people so scared about other clubs getting big investment. Literally no team has ever been improved beyond recognition by it overnight and only a few teams have actually used it to become elite clubs and that was back when there weren’t rules to prevent that anyway.

Relies on a lot more than just money.

This. Newcastle already had comparatively the most money in the league back in the mid nineties and were champions elect and still managed to Everton it up.

Of all the clubs I'm scared of coming into money Leeds and Newcastle are down towards the bottom.

Because I remember a time when this club finished top 6 and in europe most seasons through hard work and sound recruitment.

Then a certain Middle Eastern Royal Family bought Man City who in the space of a few years pushed us down the table meaning the dreaded early EL rounds of 7th became our only realistic chance of Europe again.

Add in another powerhouse club and suddenly 8th and no Europe becomes the realistic hope for this club- it also pushes another team ahead of us in the realistic pursuit of winning a trophy.

Also using us as an example of having money not equalling success - we kept on the same bozos in the board room whereas City employed financial sound experts to take over key roles at their club including the role of chairman - as would the Saudi's and Qatari's.

Literally any club being owned by a gulf state in this country is absolutely terrible news for us.

Not really, Forest were a shambles under Kuwaiti owners. Entirely possible for bad ownership from that region. Fingers crossed for the Geordies.

Sheff Utd & Forest are/were not owned by the head honcho/backed by a SWF.

Man City and in this case Newcastle are really owned by the investment arms of their respective oil "governments".

Hopefully it doesnt come off like but it is a major concern for clubs like us, Leicester, Wolves trying to break into that top 6 cartel.

Its a shame BMD isnt done yet as having a boss stadium on the docks would make us attractive to these sorts of investors imo.

We’ve finished top 6 a grand total of 6 times since Moyes was appointed in 18 years ago in 2002 and every European campaign bar one has been utterly forgettable. Let’s not pretend these were some halcyon days shall we?

Who says a load of money is. going to put another club ahead of us? There’s teams in the Championship richer than us ffs.

Really?

You remember more than I do.

This club has played European football seven times since the ban was lifted circa 1991.

A miserable seven times.

And in the thirty years of European football before the ban we graced the European stage ten times.

In this century we have played six seasons in Europe.

In all, since European football was inaugurated circa 1955, EFC has qualified a mere 17 times.

That is a pretty disgraceful fact if you ask me.
