News of Ex Players

….always super talented, seems to be really applying himself.
There`s quite a few young players that have gone to teams on the continent that have made nice careers for themselves. I wonder if more young lads took an offer of going to clubs on the continent to develop for a few years instead of staying with clubs in England would they come back to England better prepared for life in English football.
Everytime Lookman has a good performance for Atalanta I am reminded that we let him go and kept faith with Tom Davies for 4 years.

….i often think the penny finally drops, they grow up and really enjoy what they’re doing. It was fine bit of scouting to identify Lookman but we probably had him at the wrong time.

He was one of 4 Everton players in that U20 World Cup winning England team, I was only thinking of it yesterday watching Walker-Peter’s play well for Soton.

Some players take a while to reach their potential, others show great early potential and just fade and become less than average. I wonder if the lifestyle outside of football is better for a younger player learning the game at a club on the continent. Far too many young lads getting too much cash in their pockets and seem to lose their way.

Playing away from your friends and peers abroad probably restricts some of the bad behaviours young lads can be drawn to here in the uk. Reckon the language barrier is an obstacle that forces some dedication and growing up to keep making your way.

I think you’re onto something.

I think Italy France Germany etc, despite being home to some of the worlds greatest clubs, are not THE PReMIER LEAgUE, the competition is not quite as intense throughout the league top to bottom, and the pressure is less. I’m seeing a pattern of young USA players developing better in Italy and Germany than they’ve historically done in England where they’ve mostly fizzed out.

To be sure I had given up on Lookman, I thought he was a head case.
