No, he said that he was Everton's original preferred first choice for the job. Lots of water has to pass under several bridges to turn that into reality, primarily whether Koeman actually wanted to come or not.

Yeah there's always a few bumps in the road, that's football. Let's hope we can seal the deal with Emery because this is a giant leap forward.

Our fossorial friend is correct in that it now seems Koeman has only eyes on a bigger prize than us beyond next season.

However as I mentioned on Tuesday evening matters elsewhere have been developing and this emerging candidate would be almost universally popular. He is also consistent with the "if the preferred candidate was out of contract we would have announced it by now" theory discussed yesterday.

The guy who fits that bill is Simeone, he wants a challenge in the PL
