City supporter, part-time Everton watcher. Wanted to offer an opinion about Pellegrini really, given he's still being strongly linked with the job. He's been very disappointing here, bar the first season when i feel the players enjoyed being able to play freely after Mancini's demanding and at times chaotic methods. We played some superb stuff that year, but struggled after that and limply surrendered two titles, admittedly to very good sides. From day one he insisted on a very high defensive line which meant we were vulnerable to pacy counter-attacks, we barely pressed to win possession back, and the manager was rarely able to change things from the bench. To be fair, he's been undermined by some horrific recruitment and had an excellent record at building teams at both Malaga and Villarreal, so it's hard to say whether he could work at Goodison or not, but he showed no tactical flexibility at City and didn't really improve any senior players.

Have to say, i'm a bit surprised Emery is the resounding popular choice amongst Everton fans. Obviously winning three consecutive Europa Leagues is a credible achievement, but other than that his managerial career has been mixed. I think Sevilla's recent successes are as much down to other factors such as them having a great scouting system and Director of Football. They've been awful away in the league for a while and are probably the poorest side we've played in Europe. I'd see his appointment as a risk, and not a huge change from Martinez. The Sevilla side we saw against Liverpool bares little resemblence to how they play on a weekly basis.

It may not be a popular opinion, and as an outsider i expect it'll be taken with a pinch of salt, but Ronald Koeman honestly strikes me as the best man for the job. He's done a good job virtually everywhere he's been, bar Valencia and his brief filling in at AZ. He's got experience in the league, comes across well in interviews, his current side play attractive football, he varies formations quite regularly, and he seems to guarantee a level from players that Martinez has generally failed to do. It would also distablise a direct rival in terms of one of the clubs Everton ought to overtake with the new investment.

thanks for posting mate regarding Pellegrini. I really like the fella and think he comes across great but something you mentioned sticks out about his flexibility with tactics.

I was watching a video a few days ago where he was talking about tactics and he basically said there's not much a coach can do to change a game, he said 95% of his work is through the week and only 5% is during the match. Mentioned earlier you can make substitutions but you can't really change the majority of aspects during the game. That actually worried me when he said that and sounded like someone who didn't think he had any influence on changing things.

For what it's worth I think Emery is an ideal choice for us mate, sure their away form has been piss poor this season but it's been fine before then and his record except a spell in Russia is excellent. He's young, hungry and demanding of success and demanding of his players. Exactly what we need after 3 years of Martinez telling the players they are world class after every shambles of a performance.

Thanks for posting that. It is interesting to get a different perspective on Pellegrini.

Looking from the outside in at City he seemed to be undermined not only by poor recruitment but also some bad luck with injuries. He was never the end goal for City and the aspirations of your owners and likewise I see him as a stepping stone for our aspirations if he came to Everton.

The tactics stuff is a bit of a worry naturally.

Plenty of people raving about koeman, hasn't looked that great when we've beat them over the past two seasons. He may have a lot of positives but getting a team to perform over a whole season doesn't seem to be one of them.

I've read some negativitys about Every manager we have been linked with so far , bar Simeone.
So anyone got anything negative to say about Simeone?

Whoever we appoint (it's now getting tedious), I hope Unsworth stays. Everything I've heard or read suggests that he is highly respected and a good bloke, would be nice to see the club looking further forward than the next manager and grooming someone like Unsie to take over in a few years time. That's how it looks to me at Old Trafford with Giggs, though Maureen's ego will probably scupper that plan.

Moving into a new 70000 seater stadium after next season.

But anyway i just don't see him moving,he's built or building something very unique there.
He's also a club legend as a player and he's a fan. The only thing we can offer him is more money.

Does anyone seriously think Kendall would have left us for Athletic Bilbao if it hadn't been for the European ban?
