I think people are forgetting the damage that has been done to the squad by Martinez - it's gone backwards during his tenure. Some like Stones/Barkley have looked totally out of sorts but worse than that is the shocking fitness levels. The ship needs steadying, the squad needs sorting out, we need quality reinforcements. While we were all dreaming about the likes of Mourinho, Simeone, Emery etc - Everton is a major rebuilding job - not for the feint hearted (perhaps this is where Emery lost his bottle?).

It's not going to happen overnight, but if this season we can make headway into the European places then that's a good start and a solid platform to build on. Moshiri has obviously seen something in Koeman that we haven't - it's his gig, we're along for the ride. New manager (and probably a DoF), new stadium in the early planning stages - it's exciting for the future. Get behind him and (more importantly) get behind the team. Martinez is history - we move on ;)
I've said it myself before. Everton is a massive challenge right now and we need someone up for that challenge. As you say, we've lost ground over the last 2 seasons. Re-build definitely on the agenda from this point. New stadium in the planning. Time to get optimistic I say.

The absolute vitriol on SaintsWeb is tremendous.

It's lovely. One of their lids simply posted 'Koeman to Everton is a done deal'. Clearly not based on anything, but a throwaway post really. He got absolutely barracked for it! I've been touting Mike Bassett for the Everton job for weeks and I didn't get any abuse even for that!

I've been weary of Koeman from the start of this process. His previous record at clubs pre Southampton concerns me greatly.

However on a positive light it surely puts us in pole position to land Milik, and slightly less so Janssen. Every cloud and all that.... There is a whole new generation of young Dutch players coming through with massive potential. I hope this move allows us to benefit from that. But for me it'll always be about the one that got away.

He's had two decent seasons at Southampton and that's it

Know one Saints fan who's working for a living over here. He says he hates scousers. Think I'm gonna send him a Ronald Koeman postcard holding up an Everton scarf.
It's easy to see why they hate us scousers because as a football team and as a city they are completely underwhelming. They'll call us bin dippers and talk of our slums but in reality Liverpool is one of the number one city destinations in the UK and in Europe. We've just robbed their manager we'll probably have a couple of their players and some of their woman folk too if we choose.

sothampton's a city?

Paying a manager £7million a year. That's a bit of a statement from Moshiri isn't it? More than any player currently gets I think. Imagine the wages we'll be able to start paying players

Jesus wept. Can't believe some of the absolute weapons on here - "Oh ffs, not Dutch Moyes", "Chance to make a statement we failed" absolute bloody nonsense that.

We've had to endure 2 consecutive seasons of utter tosh and you're fuming over a coach that's done amazingly given he's had to go through 2 consecutive seasons of losing all his players and having next to no money, yet he's improved Southampton season after season and got them into Europe. He plays exciting football, scouts some boss players, has won countless trophies as a player including scoring the winner in a CL final and paired with Monchi and that £165m transfer kitty, just imagine where we're headed.

Cannot wrap my head around the mentality of some blues on here. As fans we should be making him feel at home and getting right behind him. But no - fume fume fume.

Given that we're likely to lose 10 senior squad players this summer, Koeman seems absolutely the right man to trust with the rebuilding job, and I don't doubt that Moshiri had that in mind when he picked him. I'd wager that Moshiri also thinks that Koeman could exceed 6th place and kick us on further than the glass ceiling he faced at Southampton, a best of both worlds manager if you will.

If Monchi comes too, it's going to be very exciting.
