Wigan were not a comparable club.

Valencia are comparable to us, certainly when he was there they had a brilliant team and were 3rd best in the league.

I dont think he can manage top players based upon his time there, benfica and souhampton.

Valencia has been an unmanageable club for years.

Not an appropriate comparison Faustino

when he was at benfica i remember reports coming out that he was a lunatic. A little bit of lunatic isnt always bad.
he was a solid defender in his days and ive memories of his free kicks. Defensive knowledge is a plus.
obviously hugely ambitious, asking to be next united manager whilst still at a club. Ambition can be good sometimes.
he has done very well at southampton and signed a few top players and is suited to english football.
Im not blown away and very weary of figures being bandied around but would be a solid appointment.

AZ, Valencia,Benfica fans and players didnt perform for him.

None of southamptons top players wanted to stay and play under him.

I don't know what all the hysteria is about. Ok Koeman is not my first choice but he is a big step up from Martinez. He has won trophies as a manger in 3 countries. We never had a chance of getting Mourinho as Utd had him signed up since he left Chelsea.

Another point is the money we will spend this summer. Let's say 100m plus sales. This is not going to get us Top 4. Utd Chelsea and city will spend probably 200m plus. The RS and Spurs probably about the same as us. That will put us if you want to go on money spent and squads about 6th at best.

Martinez has left the club in a mess. Our best players want to leave. Moral in the club is at rock bottom. Supporters arguing among each other and sacking a manager before he even starts.

Criteria for any new manager to me would have been as follows I think:

Build a good team atmosphere
Play good attacking football but not at the expense of defending
Able to spot good talent
Get the best out of his players
Proven to develope youth
Premiership Experience preferred
Proven ability to rebuild a team

Koeman ticks most of those boxes and as I said not my first or probably second choice. But will get 1000% support.

People also need to remember he is Moshiri first choice. It's his money too. So now get behind the team and stop bitching.
Excellently put mate.

Agree totally.

Next Barca manager???

Based on his track record in Spain???

if you look at the poll results far more people wanted FDB than Koeman.
50 votes more and 55 people voted for Moyes so I wouldn't use the voting as your argument against koeman.

Ronald Koeman has been highly decorated during his football career, managed at the top level (across Europe) & proven himself under very trying conditions in the Premier League. That experience alone is priceless.

He is a man known & respected around the world and with the backing I'm sure Moshiri can deliver, would be able to attract genuine talent who should improve us almost immediately.

Yes, it's far from being a done deal but Ronald Koeman is a top manager & should it transpire, I will be very thankful.

For me, Pellegrini would be after one last big pay day, FdB & Loew too risky, Emery, Simeone & Mourinho in the relms of fantasy.

COYB.
