So lets ignore his career and focus on the last 2 seasons.

Why do you think he hasnt had the money back to spend?

What top players has he convinced to stay there based upon his amazing managerial skills?

Sorry but you spent a lot of time and effort to convince people to ignore Martinez's time at Wigan and just focus on his last two seasons. Give Koeman a break, he's not even had one game with us. Who knows what he might be capable of with us. Zidane has just won the champions league at Real with zero managerial experience, Mourinho Capello Pellegrini Benitez were all fired for not doing that. Sometimes it just works with a manager at a club, other times it doesn't. The brief is clear, top 4 challenge and trophies, in this prem environment that's no longer impossible especially with financial backing. We will be able to see what Koeman can do.

This thread has become embarrassing since yesterday. People throwing strops like spoilt 9 year olds because we didn't get Simone or Emery.

Moshiri is suddenly a fraud for getting an 'average' manager?

Our previous managers have been;
Relegated Wigan, with reputation for not knowing how to defend.
Preston from the championship.
Scottish league.
Past-it club legend on this 3rd spell as nobody else would take the job.

Even though most of us wanted the 3 time Europa league winner, he seemingly said no. Koeman is a very good appointment.

Anyone who criticises the owner and quotes NSNO because he hasn't turned us into Barcelona overnight needs a reality check.

Also, we haven't been sold Emery, Mourinho or anyone else. The club have said absolutely nothing. It's just been rumours and here say, mostly from this forum.

I wonder how foreign experts rate this appointment?

Ive already had a few messages laughing about it.

Hes not exactly done well in Spain has he.....valencia was the biggest club he managed and look what he did to them....even had their captain file a court case.

He will be a disaster....these so called experts in UK probably see him as flavour of the month. Im sure the same was said about many other managers from paul jewell and martinez through to martin oneill.
Disaster? Get a hold of yourself. He didn't just relegate Wigan.

I don't know what all the hysteria is about. Ok Koeman is not my first choice but he is a big step up from Martinez. He has won trophies as a manger in 3 countries. We never had a chance of getting Mourinho as Utd had him signed up since he left Chelsea.

Another point is the money we will spend this summer. Let's say 100m plus sales. This is not going to get us Top 4. Utd Chelsea and city will spend probably 200m plus. The RS and Spurs probably about the same as us. That will put us if you want to go on money spent and squads about 6th at best.

Martinez has left the club in a mess. Our best players want to leave. Moral in the club is at rock bottom. Supporters arguing among each other and sacking a manager before he even starts.

Criteria for any new manager to me would have been as follows I think:

Build a good team atmosphere
Play good attacking football but not at the expense of defending
Able to spot good talent
Get the best out of his players
Proven to develope youth
Premiership Experience preferred
Proven ability to rebuild a team

Koeman ticks most of those boxes and as I said not my first or probably second choice. But will get 1000% support.

People also need to remember he is Moshiri first choice. It's his money too. So now get behind the team and stop bitching.

He won a cup at valencia and was sacked as he would have got them relegated. Fans hated him and the players hated him so much some filed court cases against him.

At benfica he only won the poetuguese super cup (lol) and finished 3rd in a 3 team league when they were favourites

I think it shows how bad koeman is when i would take a punt on those two over him.

Over his career what has he achieved?

After each dutch title he won in season one he then nosedived and got sacked.

I wont go over it again but google koeman valencia and see what he did to them also AZ....

You could level the same accusation at Mourinho.

Some proper weirdos we've got supporting us.

How many times. We were NEVER EVER going to get Mourinho or Simeone.

You can enquire but it will be a no. We finished 11th last season and 11th before that.

when he was at benfica i remember reports coming out that he was a lunatic. A little bit of lunatic isnt always bad.
he was a solid defender in his days and ive memories of his free kicks. Defensive knowledge is a plus.
obviously hugely ambitious, asking to be next united manager whilst still at a club. Ambition can be good sometimes.
he has done very well at southampton and signed a few top players and is suited to english football.
Im not blown away and very weary of figures being bandied around but would be a solid appointment.

Wigan were not a comparable club.

Valencia are comparable to us, certainly when he was there they had a brilliant team and were 3rd best in the league.

I dont think he can manage top players based upon his time there, benfica and souhampton.

He could have actually relegated Valencia. You'd love him then.

In Koeman's favour, anybody remember when he was appointed just after the red lot had signed the Southampton squad? He posted a picture of a barren training ground with the caption "just about to start preparing season training"

Good sense of humour. Bodes well.

After I came to my senses that the Jose chat was pie in the sky, my number one target was Emery, followed my Bassett and Koeman.

I think it's a good starting point, I expect he'll make us competent and competitive again. Then in a couple of years if he hasn't put is in to the top four or won something, I expect he'll be on his bike.

Im just glad we didn't go for Frank De Boer.

I wonder how that coked-up 'Everton aren't we' lunatic will feel this morning once he's sobered up? "If dis Iranian as got as much dough as he says he as, we want Mourinho, and if not Mourinho, we want Pellegrini! Eh! Everton aren't we?!"
