I think the Implication is the Southampton board heard about the counter offer and told him to sling his hook. Forcing him to accept the Everton offer as he is now persona non grata at St Mary's.

I can understand from that point view, I know your only relaying info from what there saying so I'm not criticising you, but if that was the case and he really wanted to stay at Southampton he could just say, I realise you can't pay me that much but what other reassurances can you give me to make me stay, like keeping players and transfer funds, we've obviously said everything he wants to here snd has decided the future of is blue
