All these daft fans from other clubs proclaiming they don't "get" Koeman coming to "little" Everton while they happily pick their fantasy football teams for next season... with a budget of £100m. Bless them, I think they'll probably "get" it round about the middle of August.

How hard is it to figure out? 11th place was a serious underachievement with the squad we have, one that cost the manager his job. With a better manager we should have been in Southampton's place, if not higher to be honest (when you think of the leads we squandered). But Southampton fans will have you believe that because we finished 11th twice that that's our "true level", which nothing and nobody would be capable of improving. The table doesn't lie, fair enough, but there's hardly anyone with two brain cells to rub together that thinks we shouldn't have done better.

I keep seeing comments about us "going backwards" or being "in permanent decline" - off the back of just 2 poor seasons. So what are they saying, Koeman is no better a manager than Martinez? Why don't they snap him up then? If he's so rubbish he can't possibly get Everton in the top 6 (let's say) with a £100m transfer budget, then how on earth do they think he got them into the Europa league? Luck?

There's the fitness issue, but with the budget to buy a whole new team, there's nothing on earth that will convince me Koeman would've had a better 16/17 season staying where he was. They'll be stretched by the Europa league until they go out, which they will, so what is it about their set up that has them in a better position to go forwards than us? Naff all, as far as I can see.

This "only as good as your last season" attitude takes willful ignorance to a new level, in my opinion. We started last season with a clueless manager, no real prospect of a new stadium and nothing like a £100m transfer kitty - but they insist that the 16/17 season will play out as if their 16/17 side will be competing with our 15/16 one under Martinez. Mad.
