Hahahaha, it's because he needs to sign the contract mate, he can't do that through his agent and he can't do it verbally from abroad. No problem really if we have to wait a few more days for an official announcement is it?

assuming Southampton can't employ a new manager until the deal is done so they can't be happy about further delays

quite the opposite in fact.

He is our manager, contracts signed etc. Southampton can now work on the sly to recruit their manager as technically on the face of it they aren't looking yet.

Benefit from them? They can make it appear they worked swiftly to get whoever they bring in, even if they have been doing the exact as us the whole time.

They're just jumping the gun mate, everyone wants to be the first to announce it when in reality it's only ever announced when the parties involve announce it.
