I see the name of Martin O Neill being mentioned more in recent days. I think this is being fuelled by his refusal to sign a new contract until after the Euros.
It may well be that he wants to get back into club management and is waiting to see what is available to him.

I have seen him linked in the same bracket as Howe and Hughes, but in truth his record is far superior to either. I am surprised that there is so much hostility to O Neill but a willingness to give a manager like De Boer a chance, who has absolutely no experience of managing outside of Holland. The Dutch league is not that much better than the Scottish league and I don't see anybody suggesting that we appoint anybody from there.

When O Neill was allowed to spend some money at Villa he was turning them into a very good team. It all fell apart very quickly there but he was doing a good job while he was there.

I certainly don't know who the managerial targets are, but I have seen names like Pellegrini, Bielsa, Hinnink and other mentioned and I am no more impressed by any of them than I am by O Neill.

We are possibly at an unsual place in our history. If it is true that Moshiri has big plans for our club and more importantly has big budgets available for the summer transfer window. We have been a club that could not shop in Harrods for the best managers available. Instead, we took risks and appointed managers that were on an upward curve in their careers and Everton FC was a substantial upward step.
We may now be looking at what is available in Harrods football managers counter for the first time, but what are we looking for and are young managers like De Boer and Howe even available at Harrods. Are we in the market to price the best merchandise or are still looking at the bargain basement...only a better class of bargain basement.

Im not saying this to be antagonistic and youre entitled to your opinion...

I absolutelt LOATHE Martin O'Neill. When he was at Leicester he did well for them and was linked with Liverpool. I was so happy and looking forward to them being dismantled by him whilst falling for his "charm".

At Villa he signed players for silly fees and huge wages. Also usually players who were the flavour that season.

Villa were left in massive trouble when he asked for money for players and refused to sell any (as who would leave on salaries double their worth?) which was rejected by Lerner and he quit on the eve of the season despite being backed enormously.

Villa then went through cost cutting trying to offload these players and Lerner took a hit from other investments and got fed up with funding a club where he had been done over by oneill.

If he came as manager all our top players would likely want to leave.

Hah

If i would have account in some of those firms I would defo throw few tenners on Favre and wait for rumours to pop up x

Btw...Okeefe defo knows how easily those odds change.

Why did he felt the need to tweet that O'Neill tweet...
Someone who is in the clubs pocket aswell, just hope this o'neil thing hasn't come from wthin the club like a be careful what you wish for kind of thing

But he kind of talks to the club with that tweet
Little bit like...no no no...evertonians wouldnt be happy with this calibre of a manager

Jesus lads stop talking about O'Neill he's on the pigs back with the Ireland job and there's no way he's on our radar.

Dave's army haha I like it, respect for our fallen comrade, who despite his whacky defence of Martinez is a stalwart of GOT

Looking forward to our new manager, whoever it may be.

That really is not true is it ?

I have no problem with people not wanting or not rating O Neill , but what you are saying is simply not true.
O Neill did well at Villa and I think they finished sixth in his last season. He left at the very start of the next season because he wasn't given money to sign players and I think a couple of his key players were sold.
I remember Young going to Utd and Milner to City, but there may be more.

O Neill felt that Villa were on the point of challenging for top four and wanted to buy players to push on. Lerner , instead sold some of the better players and O Neill left.
The Villa fans at the time certainlty sided with O Neill and were sorry to see him go.
I think the tailspin the club has been in since then is probably what O Neill saw coming.

I am not advocating O Neill as manger, but cannot understand the support for Pellegrini who has possibly the most expensive squad in the world at his disposal and still puts out team that don't convince, Hiddink who is in semi retirement , Mancini..see Pellegrini , while O Neill has a good record at club management . Don't forget he even took Celtic to a Europa Cup final, or whatever it was called then.

Didn't he leave Villa to care for his poorly wife? I vaguely remember this happening.

First and only post I plan on making...

How confident is @The Esk regarding his claims of a decision already being made and Martinez told he will be gone end of season?

He seems very certain, and could look very silly if what he claims is going to happen doesn't happen
