If the new owner wants to send out a message that Everton are returning to the football top table , then it won't be done by appointing the manager we would have appointed before he arrived.

The top clubs are appointing managers with a pedigree. They will not take a chance on a manager like Frank de Boer because his appointment is too high a risk if he fails.
Koeman gets by because he has had two successful seasons at Southampton although his record before that was mixed.

For me , if not Mourinho, then Pellegrini and Unsworth.
Unsworth spoke of his ambition to be a manager recently. The work he has done at Everton won't have gone unnoticed and we could lose him altogether.
I think the experience of Pellegrini and the "youth" and enthusiasm of Unsworth would make an interesting combination and maybe even Unsworth taking full control in time .
