The thing is Lamar was not given an opportunity to throw for more. You can say it's because he can't, I'd argue it's a choice the Ravens made. It's not that OBJ saves him so much as real receivers will make it possible to do.
Any QB could throw for more. But it's whether he could throw for more yards, efficiently.

Harbaugh isn't an idiot. He has built that offense completely around Lamar's talents - focus run first, high percentage throws, and utilize the tight end.

That contract is a big one for a guy with those talents. He's not going to sling it 40 times a game and win them like the other elite QBs in the AFC. He's just not.

Is he exciting? Sure. But that's a massive contract for his talents. Especially for a guy who to get the best out of him needs to run, which increases the likelihood of injury

Lamar is not going to last much longer physically as a QB who also runs 150 times a year. He's already missing a few games through injury every season. Unless they plan to transition the offense so he throws more and runs less, this is a terrible investment.

The thing is they don't do high percentage throws. We push the ball down the field a lot. Those are by definition lower percentage. His average depth of target was way higher than guys like Mahomes, Herbert and Burrow with reputations for throwing down the field. Which makes a lot of sense given how that can play off the strong run offense. What doesn't make sense is not having receivers who take advantage of that.

Idk man he's had some stretches of extremely high efficiency. One time he was the most efficient passer in the whole league. This season he was in range of doing the same thing until Bateman got hurt at which point there were no longer any starter level receivers on the team. I'm not naive enough to think his efficiency won't suffer from being asked to do more but could he throw 35 times a game and lead a really good offense still? I'd say the very likely answer is yes.

He's beaten Mahomes, Allen and Burrow already. The Ravens have been leading the division each of the last two years when he got hurt. To me the ONLY question is can he stay healthy. I just feel like you've got a way better chance of that happening than finding someone else even close to as good.
