Wondering how the Vikings handle Darnolds contract situation with McCarthy in the background.
They could franchise tag him for a year and let McCarthy develop behind him.
The Packers bring great shame to the NFC North.
Kick them out.
As it stands they goto the Eagles and if they win that they play away to either the Vikings or Lions.

Franchise tag him and trade him like the Pats did with Cassel I think. They love McCarthy and the GM seems to prioritise cap space.
The only way I see it changing is if they do the impossible
Thats my thinking, they went for this to gamble big on free agency with a rookie QB.
Darnold has been superb but they have a plan and JJ is that plan.

thing is Darnold is what, 27 years old? I mean that is no age in QB terms. What if he goes ballistic again next year? With the weapons available to him, it is far from unrealistic. Would be hard to move off him then.
Darnold will be getting paid 45 million plus next year.
JJ with 3 top top tier free agency signings is the gamble versus keeping Darnold.

Yeah they’ve set up this plan for years and KOC was hired in part to develop the first franchise QB in 40 odd years. They’re a smart modern front office who’ve finally stopped paying absurd money for a QB, they’re not moving off the plan unless something spectacular happens or more likely the Wilfs demand that Darnold is retained.
People and the media can say what they want but short of a Lombardi, or recurrence of injury McCarthy is the guy next year.
This isn’t a flash in the pan for Darnold either though, he’s legit and somebody’s getting a really good QB if they have the infrastructure.
Oh one more thing, if the Vikings lose their first playoff game the Darnold narrative completely changes too.

Lions get the win. Defence was poor at times, but two interceptions by Joseph and some woeful kicking by Moody made the difference.

I can't see how their banged up defence holds up in the play offs against the top teams, their offence will need to be scoring near 50 to win a game by looks of it
Vikings will beat them this week, they’re my pick for the NFC, especially if they take the #1 seed.

As things stand, I agree.
There are a few defensive players due back, if we manage to secure No.1 seed and those coming back can contribute after the bye week, things will look a little brighter.

I’d be kinda surprised if they did anything to move off the original plan of going to McCarthy. Darnold has been solid but people are seeing the Vikings record and giving him too much credit. The defense is second in DVOA while the offense is middle of the road. They’re also 7-1 in one score games or something like that.
Darnold still has the big mistakes in him. He still takes a lot of sacks. The arm is top notch like it’s always been but the improvement is about the situation more than him and the situation isn’t changing when McCarthy steps in.

We all know that Quarterback efficiency tends to go down the more they throw in a game. I wanted to look at top AFC QBs and see how their winrate fluctuates based on an (admittedly arbitrary) threshold of 30 pass attempts in one game.
Lamar Jackson has an overall record of 71-28 (71.7%) including the playoffs. He is 20-18 (52.6%) when throwing 30+ times in a game, and 51-10 (83.6%) otherwise. He wins 19.1% less often when throwing 30+ times and 11.9% more often when throwing <30 times.
Josh Allen has an overall record of 81-38 (68%) including the playoffs. He is 50-30 (62.5%) when throwing 30+ times in a game, and 31-8 (79.5%) otherwise. He wins 5.5% less often when throwing 30+ times and 11.5% more often when throwing <30 times.
Joe Burrow has an overall record of 42-32-1 (57%) including the playoffs. He is 33-30-1 (52.8%) when throwing 30+ times in a game, and 9-2 (81.8%) otherwise. He wins 4.2% less often when throwing 30+ times and 24.8% more often when throwing <30 times.
Patrick Mahomes has an overall record of 104-26 (80%) including playoffs. He is 83-25 (76.9%) when throwing 30+ times in a game, and 21-1 (95.4%) otherwise. He wins 3.1% less often when throwing 30+ times and 15.4% more often when throwing <30 times.
Justin Herbert has an overall record of 40-39 (50.6%) including playoffs. He is 33-35 (48.5%) when throwing 30+ times in a game, and 7-4 (63.6%) otherwise. He wins 2.1% less often when throwing 30+ times and 13% more often when throwing <30 times.
Some notes to take away from these numbers: Jackson is hurt more than anyone by throwing 30+ times in a game, his dropoff being nearly 4 times that of Allen’s. Burrow benefits the most from not having to throw as much, albeit in a small sample size. Mahomes having only one loss when throwing <30 times in a game (In 2022 to the Bengals) seems kind of ludicrous.
