NFL thread - 2020

Chefs system along with some terrible hands by NE DBs padded Mahomes stats big time.

Both of his TD 'passes' travelled about a foot each. Should have been picked a couple of times.

He is good, but the scheme is great. He is still mostly a 1 read QB uplifted by a great scheme and unbelievable talent around him.
The same talent (more or less) that captain checkdown Alex Smith had. In fact Alex had Kareem Hunt as well so the talent was probably greater.

I saw no NFL MVP awards for him or Super Bowls.

I actually predict the Chiefs go 16-0 this season.

Yep the same talent basically that made Alex Smith look above average. That is not saying a whole lot when it's the scheme that is dynamic.

That sack/fumble...err INT that was called "in the grasp" as a sack was a game changer. I would agree with the call if Mahomes was not trying to throw the ball away. It was a game changer at 3-6.

They got bailed out last night. Pats are going to give them real trouble if they play again with Cam.

Mahomes has actually been really questionable in two games, so 16-0 is a stretch for me. They're still great though.

I actually think all the evidence so far has pointed to Mahomes being one of the greatest clutch performers in NFL history. The double digit comebacks in every playoff game last season being the most obvious. I’m really looking forward to see him go up against a Josh Allen in a couple of weeks.

I don’t know how you can say there is very little difference between losing playoff games (smith) and winning Super Bowls and NFL MVP awards (Mahomes) I don’t think that’s a reasonable argument at all I’m afraid. The Chiefs fans spent years pleading with the FO to get rid of Smith.

The ever so subtle use of plurals for singular things that have happened.

I agree about the clutch part but going behind every other week isn't a good way to ensure you're going to win 16 straight games. I also think to some extent the Pats and Chargers put forth how you can at least manage him even if it doesn't shut him down. I'm interested to see what the Bills do too as they have enough defensive talent to give them issues.

As I said they're clearly the team to beat, but I think it'll happen.

For it just nice to see an attacking team be the number one side, and not a side that cheats, bends the rules and plays in a negative manner. It is good for sport that the pats time is over
Mahomes and Kelce took actual Salah style dives on back to back plays Monday so...

Kelce got tugged, and unless he deflated the ball or recorded the oppos training on his way down I'm not willing to put a refs marginal call in the same bracket as that filthy organisation of tories in new england
One of the greatest athletes in the world had his shirt pulled and suddenly couldn't stand anymore. I just don't want to see diving creep into the NFL like it has in essentially every other contact sport. And it is doing so, receivers have been slowly doing it more and more for years. Guys like Beckham and Diggs pull a couple a year and Pittsburgh's old receiving corps with Brown did it every time Ben threw one too far. I'd just hate to see it get as bad as the PL has and those two plays Monday were pretty disgraceful examples.

its already there and no one did more to bring it in than the patriots

I don't know about that, as I said Pittsburgh spent a couple seasons doing it on every semi off target throw, but I should have mentioned Edelman in the list.

Anyway this is all kind of pointless at the minute as I'm really not sure what the future of this season holds anymore. Titans and Patriots both have more positives and we might be about done with anything resembling normal.

Chiefs, with Mahomes, buck a lot of typical gambling rules I have.

How they covered 11 against the best game planner in NFL history is incredible. Patriots, with a journeyman QB, really should have covered that game if you watched the whole thing. If Hoyer doesn't take a sack at end of first half, and if they get at least a FG when he fumbled, the Patriots cover, and have a really good chance at winning that game (I had +500).

Chargers and Patriots provided a game plan to beat the Chiefs. It's the same game plan the 49ers used for 50 minutes in the super bowl before inexplicably going away from it (and getting the wrong end of essentially every 50/50 call in that game).

But what makes the Chiefs with Mahomes so good is that you have to play a perfect game to beat them now. So even great game plans have to be flawlessly executed or they are gonna win, b/c Mahomes can just make something happen to beat you

I'd generally agree with this on the WR front. It seems virtually every time a WR doesn't catch a ball now, he looks around for a flag and invariably you see one fly in a few seconds after the play. It's already hard enough on defenders, but now there is just so much pass interference it's hard to watch - and it's a reason why so many Totals are going over now. Every 1pm game went over this past Sunday
