I watch Redzone but over here we get the American feeds but during breaks we have SKY analysts.

So we too have to suffer through Joe Buck and Troy Aikman along with Simms and Nantz.

I'd rather listen to Brit analysts if given the chance. I was burned out on American announcers 20 years ago, and they're mostly worse now. We need "average Joe" announcers to break up the monotony, but too many stiffs in the booth and guys like Dennis Miller and Tony Kornheiser never panned out on MNF.

That's unfortunate. I would have switched if you had your own. Chris Collinsworth is my least favorite of all. He is an excitable idiot. Then there is Jon Gruden who loves every single player. Commenting on some kid from a division 3 college team: "this kid has a lot of heart. He's a great kid and has a lot of potential in this league."

To be honest I struggle to think of an announcer I like in any sport I watch. I like Joe Rogan I guess ... although I don't actually like him on UFC that much funnily enough. There are some "legacy" announcers who have "the voice" I'm used to hearing alongside a game so I "like" them -- but there isn't a single announcer I can think of across the NFL or the Prem whom I respect their opinion and truly enjoy. TBH the only time I notice announcers is when they are saying something so despairingly idiotic that I consider muting the TV.

I like NBC's PL crew. I think Mike Tirico and Al Michaels are both great. Bob Costas used to be a favorite (non-football), but he's become tedious recently.

Al Michaels to me is that old-school guy I like partly because I've listened to him for decades and he's the voice of football ... although I do love when he mentions gambling stuff.

Don't hate NBC's PL crew the few times I've seen them although I rarely see them so can't be sure.

It's all about variety. We don't all like the same kind of comedy but there is lots and lots of choice out there. With announcers (especially in the US -- in the UK you can switch the announcers sometimes) there is no variety. They are all cut from the same cloth (either traditional broadcaster who knows the mechanics of announcing but might not know or even like the sport) or ex-player/coach.

The "broadcaster" and "player" are both hopelessly unable to do anything beyond reporting the facts (and even that is beyond them a large percentage of the time) and the coaches almost ALWAYS start off great and then get network note'd to death. Gruden, Billick ... almost all the coaches were WAY better early and got worse and worse as they went on. You can tell now by how often Gruden resorts to his clichés ... the suits must have said they liked that stuff.

I get that the average fan might not want to hear in-depth real tactics and analytics etc. but in 2015 is it so hard to give us that option at least some of the time?

I get that the average fan might not want to hear someone be funny or interesting in some way (apparently) but give us one or two of those guys. Jock humour is not a substitute for actual humour. I actually watched the pre-game show when Kimmel was on.

Good points. I think there aren't probably many people who are good talkers and good with tactics that want to be honest on TV. A guy like Mourinho could be great if he ever cared to elaborate on what was happening.

I LOVE Gruden.
