Credit to the Falcons. Played a very good game. Deserved the win. A couple of head scratchers.
-At the end of the first half why not try to get some points with three timeouts and 43 seconds on the clock? Thought that was dumb with ATL getting the ball to start the second half.
-Injuries all over the show this season...simply couldn't overcome them in the end. Steven Terrell was poor today and responsible for a couple of huge plays. Earl Thomas was a massive loss, but the team was plagued with injuries throughout the season. At one point today our #2 and #3 corners were out...and our #1 was limping as well today. Not a good recipe against that high powered offense. Shead did his knee so you have to wonder if he'll be back next season at the same level...same with Thomas really.
-Defensive line wasn't getting home. Credit to the Falcons O-line. They played very well in both phases IMO.
-Offensive line was atrocious...again.
-Why wasn't that pick at the end reviewed? It looked like a clean catch and he was on his back then the ball was ripped out? Not saying that would have been the difference but still. Watched it a bunch of times...he had possession and was down on his back. It's a shame P Rich couldn't come down with that catch...really could have made it interesting.
Anyway this season was a weird one. Injuries to so many players...so many key players. Amazing that Wilson lasted the season behind that crap line and the badly injured knee and ankle he somehow played on. Setting a career high in passing yards was remarkable all things considered.
Our window is still wide open though. I feel like we simply can't have worse luck again with injuries, and that there is no way our offensive line will be the worst in the league again...someone needs to be let go if it is. We simply have too many players in the prime of their careers to think we won't be one of the league's best teams again next season. So many young players that are just getting started too and look like real quality players. I am very positive about our chances next season.
Seattle has 7M in salary allocated to the entire OL (avg. 700k player). Some teams have more than that allocated for 1 OL player. Until that gets fixed Seattle isn't winning anything and/or Wilson is going to suffer a serious injury.
We have about $35 mil in cap room next season and don't have any major free agents coming up. I would be shocked if we don't invest in the line.
