Nightmares

I genuinely still have nightmares about being at high-school / college, and I’ve forgotten to do my homework / coursework, and I have turned up in just my under-pants.

I am 44 years old.

Very common.

The being undressed one is a fear of being exposed for some past transgression.

Homework not being turned in could allude to a sense of current perceptions of procrastination, or feeling you have little or no control of life.

Not a nightmare, but I often dream about riding a motorcycle or scooter and then suddenly ask myself how is this possible as I don't have a "bike licence" or even own a bike/scooter. Weird really, It's like I don't realise that I'm dreaming but I know something's not right.
I posted the above about riding a motorbike but realised in my dream that I don't have a licence. Well, I nodded off earlier today and dreamt I was in a queue to apply for my bike licence. I mean, can't have me riding around unlicensed and breaking the law in my dreams :D Oddly I was told my licence was ready to collect from another building, but then I wandered around the streets lost and unable to find the place, and no one was able to help me. I guess that was some sort of real-world anxiety coming through in my dream.

Let's say this pal of mine let on about a recurring nightmare he kept suffering.

He's a soldier in Afghanistan and his mates have been killed in action and the natives are tracking him down because they want him dead as well, there's a lot of them and they're around every corner, so he heads for high ground but they're gaining on him. At the top of some bluffs/cliff face he realises he will have to jump to escape, there are 4 pools at the base of the drop, each pool is a childhood residence bedroom he grew up in, but only one of the pools is deep enough to allow him to live, in panic he chooses and jumps, as he hits the water he wakes with a start, pools of sweat, heart beating out of his chest.
Dogged him for years.

I told him he was to fixated on dreaming about other peoples ma's and to grow up n get a grip. In retrospect this probably wasn't very helpful. What is the obvious tale to be read in his recollection?
