Nikica Jelavic has announced his retirement from football at the age of 35

Reading this sort of thing from a former player of ours really pisses me off. I mean, he can't be the only one who didn't put in his shift, can he? There are many reasons why you can underachieve, but lack of application and thinking that it's still OK coast along is a betrayal of the shirt and the badge. What does our club motto say? Did he live up to that? No wonder we we so mediocre for so long.

Remember bagging a small fortune each week when he first joined.

He was always 8/1 to be First Goalscorer, and scored first against Spurs, Sunderland and Liverpool in the cup, Norwich, Man Utd and Fulham I think, and paid for a very decent holiday at the end of the season.

So Always got very fond memories of Jelavic.

Just thought he'd lost form at the time but was really disappointed he came out with that one, he was a decent striker and you wonder how it would have been for the team if he'd applied himself better.

I don't get that mentality.

Why would he try less, when he seemingly had the world at his feet? He didn't switch off at Rangers, so why after 6 months at Everton?

This still rates with me as one of the most exciting build ups to a goal that I've ever seen at Goodison.

The sad thing there is that kind of unbridled celebration after scoring a goal is a thing of the past.

Now the celebrations are curtailed in case VCR finds a reason to disallow it.

Like that winning “goal” home to the Mancs last season.
