Nikica Jelavic

I think Heitinga is gone after today but I don't Jelavic is cut and dry. I think we're lining up someone like Demba Ba to replace him but I don't think there's a panic to do so.

How about this one lads

Sell Kone, keep jelavic, loan in Bily

"They [Jelavic & Heitinga] are extremely pristine professionals and I need to listen to them. They are frustrated with the lack of minutes with the World Cup around the corner and I need to look into that. That doesn't mean we want to sell them."

Martinez after the game. He may very well be saying one thing and thinking another, but it sounds like to me he'd like to at least keep hold of them if he could.

I said earlier on that I think he's handling this situation perfectly. They're two international footballers that are desperate to get away to play every week to improve their World Cup selection chances. Martinez is saying he can understand why they'd want to leave, but they won't unless I want them too.

I don't think for a second that either of them are in his plans, he's just trying to keep their value as high as possible.

This.

He'd sell the pair of them in a heartbeat. He's been hawking them for sale in the media for the past 10 days.

Also Dave, you know full well my stance on Jela and that i personally have had enough of second chances etc, this isn't about that imo, its only a short whilst before he's off imo and im glad of that now, but if he's still here, with the boost of today plus the incentive of impressing any suitors, then use it as a chance to give Lukaku more than just a ten day rest and give him a bit more time to get himself recharged imo

I see what you're saying, but honestly I believe if we start Jelavic against even the likes of Norwich it has the definite potential to end up needing a hastily re-written plan to try and get control of the game with less time on the clock if things aren't working out. I just cant see the need for the gamble when things are just fine in the PL by and large as they are.

Regardless of what's said on forums like this though it's all moot, as I dont think Martinez has any intention of using Jelavic as anything other than a late sub or starter in 'lesser' fixtures like this. He has a Plan A for who we use in attack and how we attack, and Lukaku is the only one he can see leading the line in the way he wants it led. Jelavic will always be a bit part player under a boss like Martinez and I think he'll be off this window...that would seem the likelihood anyway.

Well I tell you what Martinez obviously thinks he's not good enough to lead the line for this team or he would not be selling him

Well Martinez did say in his post match interview that he doesn't want to sell jelavic but it's what the player wants in the world cup year . To me it smells like jelavic was unhappy on the bench and today he's scored few so maybe if he gets few more starts and scores then maybe jelavic will stay until summer if not then I can see him being sold near the end of the window. Heitinga looks to be off anyway. Either way we will have to spend 15+ plus on two strikers by summer if jelavic goes
