ok, lets stop the silliness now. whats this r4 malarky? why do some of you seem to be reaching ecstasy at the thought? and as well as a good mp3 player, im after a DS lite as a present for christmas, so where should I be looking? and what extras should I be looking to get with it?

An R4 or DSTT is a little card the same size as a normal DS card, the normal DS games retail at £14.99- £29.99, you can buy a DSTT card for £7, on this DSTT card you can add games, a 2GB DSTT card will hold roughly 20-30 games. I KNOW SOMEBODY, who before they had to format, well this dude he had like over 2000 games, which he paid nothing for.

All of the above surely breaks lots of copyright laws and is highy illegal, but if anybody needs help, i can answer any questions in PM and i can erm maybe ask MY MATE, who i may add is 1 evil MOFO.

Breaking the law is wrong and stealing games from these poor multi-Million pound games companys should NOT be encouraged.

an r4 card is now only £12.95 has moonshell yes on the software.

I wouldnt recommend chipping a home console these days, you could miss out on the online side of things, if its detected, I just part exchange them these days.

In my experience the ds is fine online with a flashcard adapter!

i installed te ds browser yesterday as i wanted a post to have
*posted via a portable gaming device.
you need something for the gba slot though dont you ?

japs can watch tv on them apparently and are writing allsorts of applications for them.
some of the latest games can connect to wii and you play them on the tv using the ds as the controller.

MarioKart is the most addictive game that I have (I mean the kids).

DS is a handy penalty kill (sorry for the hockey reference) when you need to pacify the 8 year old or when you personally have a long wait in your future. Good for car trips where the kids multiplayer the games. I also endorse the games Magnetica and Big Brain from our limited selection but MarioKart seems to get the most play. We stay to the E-rated stuff mind you.

The kids are getting that from Grammy for Christmas.

The R4 is not illegal chaps :)

Downloading roms for it is not illegal either, providing you own the game of the rom you are downloading.

The R4 was originally intended for 'homebrew' development so if you speak in terms of that then you will be fine.
You can find lots of NDS homebrew games/applications etc via google, some of them are actually pretty good.

You can also load moonshell on to the R4 which can play mp3 (that you own the hard copy to of course or from itunes etc), and view pictures etc.

I've had an R4 for years and it is invaluable. Don't buy bigger than a 2gb card for it though as some R4's dont work with them and it is hit and miss which ones do and which ones don't.
There is also a rumour that some R4's are junk even from new and dont work and some do. I think this is a rumour spread by nintendo so I wouldn't worry about it.

I found a website directed towards people intending to use the R4 and basically warns people off getting any card with a memory of over 2GB (as mentioned above) as they are not the genuine thing.

"R4 DS Warning"

you can fit 50+ games on a 2gb, if you dont put the ones with big vid clips then you can fit maybe 65+, just have more than 1 microsd if its a prob, you can swap the games around easy enough and a save file gets created for each game so you can keep your scores ets, also supports cheats as well

yeah, so wheres best to buy a new one? I dont want a bundle with 20 games, I simply want a DS lite with the essentials then I can buy the game I want.
