its one of them mate where everyone outside france hates him for that but if he did it for the country you support how would you honestly feel about what he did ?

its just a shame its come to this because he was a super footballer who i respected hugely but its tainted him now and sadly he will only be remembered for that rather than all the great goals and perfomances he did for both arsenal and france.

shame really

I actually think it would have been a travesty HAD they punished him.

I mean you're opening up a can of worms there. What's next?

This might upset our Irish peeps, but my opinion of him hasnt changed 1 bit, if anything, he came out of it all with my respect, he never hid from what he did, he was honest and open, ok, he cheated, but he wont be the first and he wont be the last.

Thats my view anyway.

Im sure the Irish lads wont share it. :P

Hated him for what he did but whats done is done.

Just close the book and finish it now please.

I disagree totally Goat, all FIFA have done is supported cheating in football......they are now in fact complicit as they refuse to both punish or even condemn it...toothless bloody wonders with far too much French influence

I dont think he should have been punished. It was really harsh on Irish supporters but in the end it was the referee getting a decision wrong.

I still like him :)

i'm away from all the media circus, but i still appreciate what a shocking thing he did.

but i'm with you adam. a career of genius is too much for me to change my opinion of him.

but if he did it against england my feelings would be very different i guess...

i just love him for sticking 4 past liverpool in one match.

If you punish Henry then you have to punish EVERYONE that cheats. You could probably point to a handful of incidents every game, the question is where do you draw the line?

Take this example... Let's say Gallas handled the ball on the goal line at the other end, denying Ireland a clear second goal to put them through. Ireland get a penalty and Gallas gets sent off. But then Keane misses the penalty and France end up going through. Gallas clearly wins in this situation. He'll miss the first game of the World Cup but he's a national hero. So should Gallas then be punished further?

I don't agree with what he did, but then again how many of us praised Phil Neville for handling from Kuyt in the last minute of the derby the other year? (Shame the git scored the resulting pen mind you...)

I've always thought Henry has come across as a really nice guy and it's rare that somebody says something bad about him.

If they charged him, they would be charging players every week for similar offences. I hate the fact he and France got away with murder, but maybe this will persuade the people who run the game, to at least try some sort of video replay system. Decisions like this made at the highest level, can cost Clubs and Nations Millions, it seems sensible to at least try to ensure the decisions are the correct ones.

You could argue that FIFA support cheating by not having a process in place to retrospectively punish players for individual incidents - they could have players being cited for certain infringements like in rugby, but choose not to - so the system is that it's all down to the officials on the day. Like it or not, that's the system & it would be wrong to make an exception for one player & not for others, but maybe it's time that they reviewed the current arrangements.
