Non League Football

Good game between Vauxhall and Nantwich Town yesterday. Nantwich looked the better footballing side but Vauxhall were a lot more physical and quite strong in many areas. The away side took the lead, late in the second half but Nantwich equalised not long after. I thought the ref let a lot go, there were 2 really good penalty shouts from my spec, also a possible red for an off the ball clash, which the ref gave a yellow for. Probably a fair result, all things considered.

Got myself a half season ticket as well, Bootle home next weekend... did any lids get to the Widnes game? They keep on winning, and may well be out of sight come February.

My mate went the Widnes game. Said it was a terrible game of football, conditions didn’t help as it was very windy, but we just keep finding a way to win. It’s a cliche but winning when not playing well is what champions do. Long way to go yet but half way through the season and the goal difference doesn’t lie. Vauxhall and Nantwich drawing was the perfect result for us too!

The "foul" leading to a penalty for Scunthorpe yesterday.

I can take losing work you're not good enough. But when the officials are that bad, it leaves a very bitter taste.

Win would have taken Marine out the relegation spaces.

Scunny lad here, so thankful of the points, but yeah, I can see why you'd be aggrieved. Tbf, the commentators on Radio Humberside, including ex-Iron Steve Torpey, admitted straight away it wasn't a penalty.

Still, we need to get out of this league asap or the club could quite easily disappear.

Just found out that a lad who used to play with my eldest is on loan to Widnes from Chester - Adam Bott.

Has he played yet ?

Reckon he’ll make it as a semi pro / lower league ?

Played up front as s kid - rapid and great control.

He was a very good rugby player too - fly half.

He’s definitely good enough for step 3 in my opinion, which is the league above Widnes currently. Still young too so potential to play at a higher level. Good box to box midfielder he is.

I got a book about the Joe Royle era at Oldham Athletic as a christmas present. It's nice to see them doing well at the moment it's been a rough last 30 years for them.

Their chairman seems to be a pretty popular and amusing character with the fans as well.

Widnes’ winning run ended with a 2-1 defeat to Vauxhall Motors which really opens the title races back up. I was at the game, Widnes totally dominant in the second half but it just wouldn’t go in. “One of them”, move swiftly on to the next one.
