Nothing Happening

As much as I liked Donovan, I'm inclined to disagree with that statement. Look at the two players side-by-side:

Fee - roughly the same for each player (around £6m-£10m)
Attributes - both are skillful, fast wingers

However, this is where I think N'Zogbia swings it...

Age- N'Zogbia is 25, Donovan is 29 meaning N'Zogbia has a) more years left in him; and b ) greater sell on potential
Position - Donovan would play on the right, where we already have Coleman. N'Zogbia would play on the left where we've struggled since losing Pienaar.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Donovan back at the Club, but given the reasons outlined above, I think N'Zogbia is the more viable option.
I think N'Zogbia's simply a better player and all. He's one of the only match-winning players in the league not already at a top 6 club. He ticks every box that we should be looking to tick.

Na, we've made signings relatively early in most of Moyes' summers here. 2008 and 2009 are glaring exceptions, but even last year we had Beckford signed up the day the transfer window opened.

Also, we were apparently willing to sign Demba Ba last week, lest we forget (I think there was a thread about it..).

Is anyone taking the Fellaini thing seriously, has a hint of journo word twisting to it but basically it seems like he doesn't want to be here and is angling for a move. Bad news really. Unless we get in excess of £25m for him

Sadly it does.

Also, time to play hardball with Fener. If they want to send us a few derisory bids for Yobo, then it's time to tell Yobo that he can be prepared to report to Finch Farm for preseason preparations.

They need close to 5M-6M for him. Not the 2M that's been reported as their recent bids. That's just stupid.

It never really occurred to me to be honest. Are we really that skint that we'd delay a transfer until the last minute to save out on a few weeks wages?

I think getting new faces in early and letting them get used to the team is more important, personally.

Then again, these days we don't seem to make any signings. Never mind just late ones.

We're playing it right. Fenerbache want him and agreed to a price. He was integral to them winning the league and securing champions league football. They're just trying it on. It's a question of who blinks first. If we stand our ground, the chances are that they'll pay closer to what we're asking for rather than risk losing him. It wouldn't harm if someone else made an enquiry about him too.

It's a similar case with the Yak. He's obviously too good still for the Championship. In a decent side he'd fire them to the Prem. It just depends who can get the money together and who wants to make the first move. Everybody is waiting on everyone else for the merrygoround to start.

I'd say it's mostly a by-product of waiting to see what others offer for our players, tbh. A happy coincidence for the club.

Does it work like that?

I don't really agree with that. I think we tend to offload early to give us more time to decide how to spend the income. If we were that desperate to save on wages we would have pushed Yobo and Yak out of the door already. We then buy late once everyone else has fought it out for the sought after players and have no more money left to spend. Selling clubs will then do a deal rather than entering the new season with a player who isn't in their plans.

Nice one. At last a 'transfer rumour' thread which has some basis in reality .. Nothing Happening. What a breath of fresh air!

Although I think Zog would indeed be the better resale option (heresy!), I think he will go for far more $$$ than LD due to his age. We can't afford him in all honesty.

Also, LD does play on the left as well - he interchanges with Dempsey on the USMNT all the time since he is dual-footed.

Regardless, I want SOMETHING, ANYTHING to happen soon. I know 7/1 is approaching, but all this waiting is starting to eat at me. I don't care if it's just Yobo being sold, but forward movement would be great.

Yes, I know patience is a virtue.

I was just talking in hypotheticals.

In the very real case of Yobo, I'd say we are playing it right. But that said, I'm with Amokachi -- who recently said he's worth more like £8 million. He's experienced at the highest level, the captain of his country and the man who won the title for the team trying to buy him. Even if we get £5 mil for him, I think we're getting shafted.

Part of the problem is that we don't want him, so that gives Fener the advantage. Hia age will put a lot of people off too. I can't think of too many experienced centrebacks who have switched clubs for a lot of money recently to make a comparison. If we get about £4m for him, it's probably about right.

He's not even turned 30 yet though. And CBs traditionally get better with age. You could argue 30ish is a CB's prime.

We paid £5 million I think for Distin, when he was 31. And he's never even been capped. Admittedly I think Distin is a better player than Yobo, but when we signed him I didn't think so -- he's really had the form of his career since joining us.

I think £4 mil is disgusting for someone of Yobo's ilk.
