Nothing has changed.

Oh aye, in the context of the thread title, things are changing, but heh, I've been saying that for some time now and this thread has surely moved on from the narrow remit if "Nothing Has changed" to a more general conversation ?

Within the more general context, the fact that we're top of the transfer spend table since Jan 2017 isn't that important though. Firstly, we spent money on Morgan in January, which is a time when very little business is done by the big clubs. Secondly, as I said before, it's early doors and the six clubs who finished above us are likely to spend big as well in the next month or so, so we'll likely slide down that table, and posting it now will come back to bite you.

What's more important is that we're doing our business early. Last summer was a bit of a shambles in that the club allowed the media to bandy about figures of 100 million being spent and also allowed the media ( and I include this place and other parts of the social media in that ) to give the impression that we were likely to sign better players than we actually ended up doing. That doesn't mean we weren't in for those players, but it does mean there was a lack of reality in the media, and almost certainly at the club as well, in who we were likely to sign.

This summer though it looks like the lessons have been learnt and we've identified our targets and ( relatively ) quietly, gone out and brought them in. That shows a degree of professionalism which was totally lacking this time twelve months ago, so things have certainly changed there.

The fact that we're getting deals done early also shows we havn't waited till the Summer to approach clubs, we'll likely have been putting feelers out since January, and will have had a fair idea of the sort of money we needed to spend to sign the likes of Keane, and we havn't penny-pinched in the traditional Everton way, we've just done what's necessary to get the players in. So we now have four first-teamers in for pre-season, which may have costs us a few million more than endless negotiations ending in August, but it gives the manager and the coaching staff a little time to work with those players and start to fashion a team out of them.

As an aside, fair play to @Sapie88 for starting this thread and managing to avoid it getting locked. It was plainly a piss take and is essentially a duplicate of the Moshiri thread, so not getting it closed is something he should be proud of, as is his faux indignation at people having a go at him. Sapie will never have the wumcraft of a davek, but he's doing pretty well.

Good post Wolo, you gin soaked fool.

I agree with every word, but mostly the end bit.

I honestly expected 2 pages max. 130 pages has exceeded anything I ever dreamt.

Stop telling them all I don't really care Wolo. They're abusing me!

It's good that you're acknowledging the fact that it was a piss take and I trust the mods will be lenient.

Well put, woolly one. The idea that we would be seeing both purpose and execution from Everton in June and July is something we just can't absorb easily. I don't really know how to react yet. I'll keep working on it.

Oh here we go, the main troll and his little sidekick are back.

Just ignore the thread if you hate it that much and let us well balanced Evertonians have this discussion in peace.

I hope the mods will listen to my reporting of you both.
It's clear everything has changed mate. And i hope the mods consider locking this thread. It's clear that it's now a thread of gloating and I told you so etc etc.

Just enjoy the good times

I told the lads on WhatsApp what I was gonna do... I've said too much.

CLIQUE !

Danny's wish to foster debate by allowing threads to run is to be applauded, but that does present opportunities for the wise ... and you.

Woolo. Buy me beer and admire my arms.

Meet me pre-match in the Peacock or the Black Horse and I'll happily buy you a pint, but I'm not built to work my way though the four deep queue that resembles a scrum in the TF and return with beer glasses intact.

I'll try to admire your arms, but I always get stuck at admiring the hugely impressive muscles in your neck, which are plainly needed to support that massive cranium.

Ive got some really bad news for you all, you see, @Sapie88 /@daveks gonna be right, we arent gonna spend "much" this window, if we assume we sign the players linked and then assume that ALL those player will be selected, it leaves us with :

Pickford
?? - Keane - ?? - Baines
Morgan
Klaassen - Sigi
Sandro - Giroud - Rooney
Then assume the following sales
Lukaku 100m
Barkley 30m
Niasse 8m
The clev 8m
Geri 10m
McCarthy 15m
McGready 4m

175m

And of course the following purchases
Pickford 30m
Klaassen 24m
Keane 30m
Henry 7m
Sandro 5m
Sigi 40m
Giroud 20m

156m

Now unless we manage to spend a vast sum on a LB or a CB, our net spend isnt going to look great!!!

Our wage bill on the other hand, will be INSANE.

Just something to ponder lads.

Make your peace with David.

Now look what you've done ffs, that post was like catnip

NO!

I said the manager would build the squad, I didnt mention net spend, I said we would "struggle" to spend all the money after sales.
...oh look, here's you not caring about net spend before....

We are forever being left behind.

Thankfully Moyes could bridge the gap with superb signings and very little Net spend.

Over to you Roberto.
MorgsGoat, Jun 6, 2013

Given our net spend we are very much overachieving.

Money isnt the be all and end all, just ask the RS, but for the same token, Arsenal stopped spending and they became sh1t, City and Chelsea continue to spend and continue to push for honours, sure the odd Swansea and Wigan and even Newcastle comes along now and again, but money really does make the world go round.

MorgsGoat, Aug 7, 2013

Yeah I didnt understand that.

Kopites dont talk abar Net spend, they constantly claim that United have paid to win 10 League Titles, despite the fact that they have spent more, Gross and Net.

DEM YANKS

MorgsGoat, Sep 9, 2013

Spin it however you want.

Under Moyes we had an average wage bill of between 12th-14th, an average net spend of around the same, he constantly got us on average 7th place.

MorgsGoat, Apr 4, 2016

...and this is an interesting one....

Anyway, in around 2 weeks the window will close, lines in the sand have been drawn, so far The Anti-Mosh Party (TAMP) have the box seat, we sold a star player and we have a pitiful NET spend, the ball is firmly in their court, so RISE TAMPERS, this is your time.

Oh dear...........
