What does everyone think of Caitlin Morans new book where she compares men to dogs and everyone thinks she's really got to the hub of masculinity and what it's like to be a man?

Also, Captain toms daughter. Thoughts on that?
Well, she's entitled to her opinion.

I say woof woof to her.

I read the China thread while having my morning coffee and thought what an absolute dumpster fire, I'm going to get stuck straight into these kents (respectfully) after work, only to come home and find it locked!

Not really surprising when the only rule seemed to be the highly subjective 'don't be a tit', people are terrible at judging whether they are "being a tit", the China thread being a prime example with 20 odd westerners who ostensibly pride themselves in being inclusive engaging in a pile on and trying a convince a Chinese person that the culture they were born into and likely the only one they've ever known is the evil empire!

Notwithstanding, the open exchange of ideas is the foundation of civil society and it should be re-opened with a proper rule. Play the man and not the ball and you'll get a red card.

Gonna miss being called a 'r****t, Z*****t, I**********c, T*********c, h********c, A******e!

richmond fingers is lucky, imagine the flan and quiche slung around regards his Scottish coronation today. Gluttony! All the well to do flag shaggers getting tingly bumholes because he's worn yet another crown. And now nowhere to ridicule these clowns, Despair! Oh for the days of blowing raspberries at the establishment, and seeing their hangers on ever so upset. Bairstow gets run out again and there'll be coronaries in the gentrified area at lords this time...

I'm way more of a lurker then poster but CA was where I would check what's happening in the world. Anything in America over night would be near the top, have a look at what the tories are up to, war updates from Ukraine, Trump nonsense, Frenchies burning cities, NRA bs, all neatly packaged and served up daily in the CA forum.
I'll be honest, I have absolutely no idea what has happened in the world since the place closed

If someone wants an actual discussion, it's on them to take the time to understand the position of the other side, so they can engage with it rather than talk past it. It's easy to be pro-PRC, if you ignore the millions of literal corpses ploughed under to consolidate its rule post-1949. What irritated me a bit was the absolute lack of engagement. As Monty Python pointed out, it's mere contradiction when the other side just calls every thing you say a lie. "Did." "Did not." "Did too!"

We simply wanted them to acknowledge that what happened over there is as well-documented as our countries' skeletons, and not just Western propaganda, as a starting point for a discussion. I understand that's risky for them to do, but it's impossible to have a discussion when the other side insists fact is fiction. That just poisons the well, which I always felt was the objective of the most flagrant offenders. IMO, they want someone like you to look at the ruckus when people lose their patience, and conclude that the other side is not open-minded. It wins their side votes in our countries, which furthers certain nations' foreign policy goals, as well as the careers of certain politicians.

Some people in CA played into their hands, which yielded the result. I thought about posting something about my thoughts, decided the result was too long and thought better of it. I probably should have said it, in retrospect. GOT was sarcastic about a paywall, but I think it's probably what needs to happen for the sub-forum to work at present. We're in the middle of an all-out media war, and it didn't shock me that it came to CA the way that it did. IMO, the choice is between moderating CA, which I would never agree to do without a sizable attached paycheck, and building a barrier that keeps the trolls out.

I'll hold my hands up to that one. On large part started put of frustration with the rather irritating tendencies creeping into other threads.

But yeah not amazing was it?

I understood it. A shorter version of what I would have said, if I had done more revision passes (and had the benefit of hindsight), probably goes like this: "Gang, I know you're having fun, and farming likes, but you're also doing exactly what they want you to do. I'm guilty of this, too. It's why they're being so persistent, and not listening. It's a tactic, and I'm afraid it works in the social media space. They're trying to activate the center-right, and reach the center, by making you look intolerant when you run out of patience. Can we agree to just all put them on ignore and have done with it? A joint agreement on this one is in your best interest. It's also in my best interest, even though there's plenty we disagree about, because we agree re: Trump/Boris."

The other reason I didn't say it is that it didn't occur to me soon enough. We were already trending down the rabbit hole, and I didn't think it would stick in context. That one's on me.
