Tony Kay was in the team for the first game I attended on November 9th 1963 against Blackburn. He was sent off in the first half for retaliation after being fouled by Bryan Douglas, and only saw him a couple of further occasions after that.
Harry, as was his wont, bougnt Pickering on the strength of that game...and the fact we were gash up front.
Douglas ran the game, (I'd forgot about getting Kay sent off) so much so that he brought in Denis Stevens especially to man mark him in the next seasons home game
Much to the delight of then Echo cartoonist who had Douglas at the half time food counter, saying 'tea and a sandwich please' with Stevens right behind him saying 'twice'

Pickering scoring a hat trick on his debut for us in March a few months later just before the transfer window closed.
Remember when you had the post office telegram riders delivering the forms to the League headquarters in Lytham to ensure the paperwork was in place.
