Tony Kay was in the team for the first game I attended on November 9th 1963 against Blackburn. He was sent off in the first half for retaliation after being fouled by Bryan Douglas, and only saw him a couple of further occasions after that.

I was stood under the Goodison Rd stand at the Park End behind a wall. That was my favourite and safest spec. Just looking at Alex Young's goal brought such fond memories of this understated footballer. I count myself extremely lucky to have seen the man play.

..played against him once when I was in my early 20s and he was an old fella. Hard as nails. Not many players hurt you when they hit you but you remember the ones who did and Tony Kay did. He was tough as teak.
