Part 1 of 4

it's a good watch

Yes seen it Kay got in those days in the Sunday people high marks out of ten for his performance in that game he took a £50 bung - jailed with others in that team - banned for life in every aspect of footballl - career ruined compared today's corruption worldwide in football- Kay was a future England international- pure class - he could not even play in the Sunday league in his prime!

Joey; He didnt 'take a bung' he and others put a bet on via a third party, the story went something like this...allegedly
At training somebody said...we never seem to get anything at Ipswich, somebody else said (gist) give me 50 quid each and and I'll make sure we get at least something out of it and got his dad to put a bet on Ipswich to win
And, as I remember it, got dobbed in by an ex everton player trying to save his own skin.
Also this was the first time taped evidence was used
The story goes that The Krays made Tony an offer he couldnt refuse to go to London and brief them on procedures

Banned for life Kay played, iirc, as A. N. Other in the Roger Hunt testimonial and was the joint stand out player

He was cited as taking a bung the money a paltry sum was in his locker, as I stated he did not play under par in fact he got top, marks in the Sunday people, ironically the ospreys who then went on to promote the allegations!

Nearly bought 1 of these Adidas 'ventex' tracky tops the other day, purely on the basis that for some reason we used to wear them whilst having an Umbro kit ?

Re the Cup Tie fever photo's in 1949 (page 4). Me and my brother got there at 7.30 am, thinking that we would be first there! We joined the queue just past the railway bridge at Walton Village. Queued for nearly five hours (it snowed) got to within 50 yards of the ticket office and there was a rush from the crowd and chaos. Me and my brother climbed up a drainpipe and over a wall to escape the mayhem. Got home cold, wet and hungry and without tickets!
