Mick Buckley shoots-

Don't know if that was the game but it may be Sheff Utd away. If so does anyone remember the 2-2 draw when we were 2-0 down. Not for the football but for the aggro v Police. The police were arresting anyone for swearing even in songs and it was getting ridiculous. It got too much and the fans kicked off on the police and battered them in our end. My mate got hit in the head by a full can of beer and split it open and was in a St Johns Amulance prefab getting treated and he said loads of coppers in there cursing scousers and one had a rib sticking out. Just checked and it was the 74/75 season with Mick Lyons and Mick Buckley scoring.

On a side note the picture higher up titled courtesy of Ronnie Goodlass with the Catt has a young apprentice Mick Buckley on it- shame he died so young.

..it probably is Sheffield United, but my first thought was Southampton. I seem to recall we hadn’t won an away game for a very long time and Buckley scored in a 1-0 win.

I am pretty sure it is Sheffield Utd as you say @banno. I had nagged my dad into taking me to a few away games and it was one of the first he took me to that season. He never went on the terraces at that time but we had to for this one. Quite an eye opener for a quiet lad from Maghull!!!!!
Actually he told me stories about how heavy handed the Sheffield police were when he was following us to places like Rotherham (iirc) in the short time we were in the then second division.

@Eggs, I was not at that Southampton game but remember it. We had gone months and months without an way win despite it not being that long since winning the title.
Just checked Everton results in the 1953-54 season when we got promoted... Last two home games were 61k and 62k!!!!! Different era of course but not bad!!!!
