Old Everton Pictures

..I think he had some struggles in his personal life, Joey. Obviously a different era where players were far from financially comfortable after a career in the game. He passed away in his 50s.
I'm sure I read somewhere he sold a story allegedly portraying out title winners of 1963 to have used "purple hearts"?

...yep, that was the one I went to, the week after we won the title. Gay Trip won the Grand National on the same day, the racing result came up on the scoreboard.
Clinched the title on the Wednesday, played this game on the Saturday! Think they might have celebrated a bit in between!!!

...in the 60s his mother, Gertie, was on the committee of Everton Supporters Club in City Road, along with my Mum. I remember her well, she had a season ticket just along from me on the front row of Upper Gwladys St.
Eggs. With you knowing so much about the personal life of Albert Dunlop, I wonder if you can help me with a query about Dunlops family, Did Albert
have a goalkeeper brother, I don't mean pro' level, I mean about 'Zingari' level. When I was a kid in the 50s I was watching my village team get
a good walloping from a team I know not, I was stood by the goalpost talking to their goalie, who then asked me who I supported, I said Everton and
my favourite player was Albert Dunlop,(I was a goalie at school) to which he replied that Albert is his brother, I still wonder whether this was true,
because most older fellers wind-up kids for a joke. Can you settle a 60 year old query? The only clues I have: He had black hair & Green Jumper!
If you can't help me? I'll just have to contact my local Cold-Case team.

...so sorry, Mc, but I don’t know if Albert had a brother, I can’t even recall his Dad. His Mum was friends with my folks in the 60s when I was a kid through their association with Everton Supporters Club on City Road.

I’d be inclined to believe the bloke you had that conversation with so many years ago. It’s amazing how such brief encounters stick in the memory for so long. Great story.

Thankyou for everything you said.

He sold a story to the newspapers - the other lot had blow up purple hearts thrown on to the pitch at the pit when we played them meaning we had cheated winning the league in 1963.. Tony Kay did an article to say and it ofcourse was proved to be untrue......
