Jimmy Harris was given the mammoth task of replacing the Cannonball Kid, Dave Hickson, in his debut season at Goodison after graduating from the Club’s Academy.

The Birkenhead-born forward got his senior career off to a flier – finishing his debut season as the Blues’ top scorer with 21 goals in all competitions in 1955/56.

A single appearance for England U-23s against Scotland followed, which was marked with a goal to cap off a magnificent season.

Harris was pushed to outside-right when Hickson was re-signed from Huddersfield Town in 1957, but continued to be a regular on the scoresheet.

He was sold to Birmingham City in 1960 in a deal worth £20,000 after scoring 72 goals in 207 appearances for the Blues.
Jimmy was very under rated and had a good career after leaving the Blues, he was still going to the game up to last year
I used to have a chat to him in the Upper Bullens, I think he is one of the oldest former Everton players still going, I think
Ron Saunders, the former Aston Villa manager is the oldest.

I'm sure I read somewhere he sold a story allegedly portraying out title winners of 1963 to have used "purple hearts"?
Yes he wrote an article in a Sunday newspaper casting doubt on how good that 1963 team was, he said some of the players used Purple Hearts, said they arranged for WBA to throw the game at The Hawthorns, The 1963 team was a great one, we won the game at WBA. 4-0 didn't need any help. Tony Kay said Albert was not a nice person to know and a few times after they had finished playing top class matches they met in minor games and Dunlop always offered his hand to Tony after these games, Kay always refused the offer because of the past issues. Albert was a terrible gambler and lost many friends through getting into debt and not paying his dues.

...wow, respect to you. That was way before my time. I did manage to get in and ended up scoring 25 goals in 19 competition games that season. Not bad.

I was 13 and one of the youngest there. Some of the guys seemed like men to me! Played centre-half but never heard anything more.

I always reminisce with my older brother about Jimmy Harris scoring a hattrick in that 10-4 goal fest at white hart lane v the Spurs elite side - he went home a stated - I scored a hattrick, but somehow we got beat 10-4 ...
My older brother pointed out that the year 1961/62 Spurs won the double with a great team , but have never won the league since.......
Everton's Keeper was injured the very experienced Jimmy O'Neill that day and a new Keeper called Albert Dunlop was thrown in - a bit of a mare by all accounts, but it was a turning point in our history - John Moores stepped in , and vowed that would never happen again .......... the rest is history.....
