My Dad got a yankee up in a betting shop near the ground,God knows what time we got home, but I was totally sick of crisps and white lemonade. My late father came home rotten drunk - My uncle who is now at 88 years old came home with one shoe lost it in the crush.......lol
What a day. My mum sat outside on Wembley way during the game as she didn’t have a ticket. I had my picture taken with Dixie Dean outside Wembley by some newspaper.
I was 11 years old too young to go to a massive all ticket game like that - doh.......All fantastic pics Joey. I can almost smell the nostalgia. You know, Baccy, beer, Wrigleys chewies.
All good stuff.
Aye. The torture of watching the teleprinter taking an eternity to type out the scores. The worse team was Wolverhampton Wanderers. However did we cope before live reports from each game. Don't forget only so many games chosen to have on the spot reporters.I was 11 years old too young to go to a massive all ticket game like that - doh.......
sat glued to Grandstand for any score.......

Talking of looking in the TV rental windows for the results my older brother who was just a teenager went to a fixture at home v Burnley { who were league leaders then } - we had beat them away, so when he got the football bus service he was a bit late as he had a grocery delivery round - most of them were full so when he got in with the queues etc he had missed 15 minutes from the kick off it was jam packed the ground - Everton scored what he thought was the winner at 2-1 with approximately 15 mins to go the crowd went mad etc -I remember in the early 70s as kids waiting to get the 68 home wondering why the ould fellas used to throng around that TV shop on a then very busy County Road watching the Grandstand teleprinter when they'd come out the game. All the screens in the window blinking away excitedly in the dark of early evening. I didn't think of fixed odds footy bets....I just assumed they wanted to see if the RS got beat !!!!
Nothing has changed. The disappointments ......Talking of looking in the TV rental windows for the results my older brother who was just a teenager went to a fixture at home v Burnley { who were league leaders then } - we had beat them away, so when he got the football bus service he was a bit late as he had a grocery delivery round - most of them were full so when he got in with the queues etc he had missed 15 minutes from the kick off it was jam packed the ground - Everton scored what he thought was the winner at 2-1 with approximately 15 mins to go the crowd went mad etc -
getting off the football bus he went to check the other scores especially the other lot over the park in a nearby window of TV hire as they were always on - to his horror he seen Everton 2 - Burnley 2 - the blues had conceded a very early goal....... he had missed.....
He had travelled home made up that we had really had a shock win..... Everton that.......think it was 1959/60 season Burnley indeed won the league - we faded away......
