Old Everton Pictures

The names are there under your question of the blues squad that year you name quite a few accurately- I was not even born then obviously reckonise Sager, O'Neil, and the Catt, TE Jones, and Eglington as they became well known any other poster care to shed some light?
Albert Dunlop is not in picture yet named as a squad player that season who is the third keeper?
George Burnett, he later was transferred to Oldham Athletic and played in goal for them the night we won4-0 there and we were promoted to the first division, some said, very unkindly, it was the best game George ever played for Everton. !!!!!!

My late father went to that game we needed to win 6-0 to win the then 2nd division title - he stated \Blues fans wer climbing in over the walls and the Oldham officials poured tar all down the walls to stop them - he stated the blues fans in there 1000s bought newspapers from the local shops to stick over the tar to climb in :D
we were well ahead at half time, Oldham well beaten put the shutters up and played quite rough in the 2nd half to deny us a six nil win to claim the trophy , but promotion was suffice for the many travelling blues fans....

[/QUOTE- Your dad told you the same story I would tell you. I was thirteen years of age, got the train in Central Station around 4-30 pm, the station was a mass of blue and white fans, singing non stop, off the train and all the way to the ground, hard to guess how many went that night. It was 4-0 at half time then , as your dad said
Oldham started a brawling game and it finished 4-0. Loads of us young fans were sitting around the perimeter of the pitch, it was that crowded, when the match finished the pitch was swamped with Everton fans, the team struggled to get off the field. Singing started again, all the way to the station, which was full of happy with joy Bluenoses, dancing and singing nonstop, all the way home and back in Liverpool , must have been after midnight, it was April or May but seemed
like Christmas Eve to me, Everton going back up to the first division and best of all, those dirty stinking reds going down to the second division, where they would stay for the next EIGHT YEARS. Happy, Happy Days.

according to my records Jimmy O'Neill was in goal that night - estimated attendance was 40,000 - at ;least 20, 000 blues fans attended... 4-0 at half time

Oh I read that the former keeper had a howler sorry not at the races today still finding my feet after coming out of hospital last week - let's hope the blues cheer us up today;)
Fair enough Joey, it's nice you back home, one step at a time and The Blues gave you a little lift today with a decent win
versus Fulham and a clean sheet, little by little Joey we will get there, same as yourself. Best wishes, and keep those brilliant photo's coming.

Just some odd memories. I left school that season and my Dad's job moved us to Leeds just before Christmas 1951. Someone told me a story about George Burnett who was the back-up goalie to Ted Sagar. Apparently, Everton had a game on St Patrick's day one season and Burnett turned out in a yellow jersey and was boo'd all the game. Don't know how true that was but when you are 10 or 11 years old you believe everything! The cartoon by George Green of the Echo brought back memories, I used to love his cartoons, brilliant. I have a team photo of the 1948/49 team. (Unfortunately, haven't the facilities to upload it) there are a significant number of changes by 1950/51.

Best wishes to you Joey, hope you are sorted asap.
