My late father went to that game we needed to win 6-0 to win the then 2nd division title - he stated \Blues fans wer climbing in over the walls and the Oldham officials poured tar all down the walls to stop them - he stated the blues fans in there 1000s bought newspapers from the local shops to stick over the tar to climb in
we were well ahead at half time, Oldham well beaten put the shutters up and played quite rough in the 2nd half to deny us a six nil win to claim the trophy , but promotion was suffice for the many travelling blues fans....

[/QUOTE- Your dad told you the same story I would tell you. I was thirteen years of age, got the train in Central Station around 4-30 pm, the station was a mass of blue and white fans, singing non stop, off the train and all the way to the ground, hard to guess how many went that night. It was 4-0 at half time then , as your dad said
Oldham started a brawling game and it finished 4-0. Loads of us young fans were sitting around the perimeter of the pitch, it was that crowded, when the match finished the pitch was swamped with Everton fans, the team struggled to get off the field. Singing started again, all the way to the station, which was full of happy with joy Bluenoses, dancing and singing nonstop, all the way home and back in Liverpool , must have been after midnight, it was April or May but seemed
like Christmas Eve to me, Everton going back up to the first division and best of all, those dirty stinking reds going down to the second division, where they would stay for the next EIGHT YEARS. Happy, Happy Days.
