On that day I was behind that goal in the centre, a little raised part of the terrace 3 or 4 steps up and directly below Row A Gwladys Street stand.1963 the blues beat Fulham 4-1 at home to secure the title and the Gladwys street try to invade the pitch - notice the old scarfs -

Cracking photos Joey!
Terrible loss those War years to us, T.G. Joe Mercer, Tommy Lawton and other clubs who lost the likes of Matt Busby and Frank Swift.
We lost Tommy Lawton too reading a great book on his life story right now..Terrible loss those War years to us, T.G. Joe Mercer, Tommy Lawton and other clubs who lost the likes of Matt Busby and Frank Swift.
Cyril Done from the RS had some lovely words to say about the great T.G., but then Cyril was a gentle man himself, when Cyril finished playing
he became welfare officer for Napiers on the Lancs. and later welfare officer for English Elec. on Dunningsbridge Road in Bootle.
Hmmm Just south of Yew Tree farm. Good swerve Everton.
My dad raved about TG - I was only young also lets not forget how our club treated him disgustingly - I have read his book the price of centre halves - he only joined our hall of fame then jumped in a taxi after the meal, and cleared off he was overlooked for the Managers job too given to the unqualified fitness fanatic Ian Buchan after all the European success TG had with Bangor FC - Ian Buchan was a complete failure too..........Reading again the Tommy Jones narrative that Joey66 posted, it mentioned Tommy Jones defending a corner by heading the ball back to his goalie, Ted Sagar. Back in the late 1950's, I was playing for a club in the semi-pro Yorkshire League. The opposition had a corner, the ball came in and for some reason no one went for it. I was stood on the edge of the six yard box and the ball dropped on my head, never even had to jump. I turned towards our goal and cushion headed the ball into our goalie's hands. At half-time, our manager collared me and told me in no uncertain terms that he didn't want me to do it again. I remember saying to him 'Tommy Jones used to do it'.
