Old Everton Pictures

Bernie The Bolt tries a spectacular overhead kick on his debut for the Blues. Not one of our better buys.

Love this site. This photo has helped fill another twenty minutes or so of solitary confinement. I could only find two occasions when Hickson scored at home to Sunderland and on one of those Bollands was not in goal for Sunderland. I have just read the match report on the brilliant site "Everton Independent Research Data" and strongly suspect this is Hickson scoring his second on 14 Sep 1957. The reports goes "The bold Donovan still captaining the side well, added his force to the attack from which Hickson scored his second. It was from his centre the Hickson nodded the ball towards goal against the wind which caused the ball to hang. Bolland and Aitken were foxed by the flight but Hickson sensing the position quickly nipped in between both of them"" If you got this photo from a book are you able to confirm my thoughts.
Twenty minutes my I spend 3 hours some days on this thread - only joking Brian I found it a very obscure link searching away as my son & I have been putting a new pump in my fish-pond today what a PIA that was to think I could do it on my own at one stage .... - any way that game my bible tells me on that day you posted above indeed Dave Hickson got 2 goals & Mick Meagan got the other - I was 2 years old.no doubts dressed in blue .....;)

I was at Sheff Utd the day Bernie Wright scored his first goal for the blues 1971/72 season .
He was a good 4 and a half foot out and hit an unstoppable shot in off the post.
Those were the days when sheff Utd had a cricket pitch on the right hand side of the away and the locals came down at us On there hundreds while the match was going on .there wasn't many of us that day and it was a bit like Rawks Drift

I only missed two matches that season, getting to 40 League games. One of them was, frustratingly, this game, as I was on a training course from work and could not get the time off.
Yeah it was quite a low gate, around 21,000 the game before against them in the cup had 50,000+

The Everton squad at the start of the 1962/63 title-winning season. Morrissey, Kay and Scott would strengthen the squad during the course of it.

Forgotten all about the blond lad at the front. In fact can still only recall his surname -- Shaw

Is that a lad named Shaw at the very front?

Westy a bundle of joy sadly missed - reading his autobiography The championship in my keeping for the 3-4 time - he always had a weight problem as a big-boned lad - he had his famous Court marshals in the dressing room - on most players like a court trial all invented as pranks he did one on Sandy Brown who let it slip that his wife was away in Scotland one weekend & Westy put it about that Sandy was having an all night party so much the catt warned Sandy not to go heavy on the ale that night -Sandy was astonished and when they had the court-martial - he went berserk - next day Sandy got his own back Westy telephoned him for a lift for training , and he left his phone off the hook - lol
Westy was late & got fined.....:D-

Fantastic crowd scenes. Anyone who wasn't around in the terracing days truly missed out. Even without Hillsboro I suspect all seating would have gradually come into effect anyway.
Not really imo maybe a more computerised way of entering the end of the turnstile etc, and the fencing removed so the gates would be smaller, but nowhere near as reduced they are now plus who sits down?
The Kop stands the whole game......
Selected standing areas with H&S for crowd control should return imo plus the ticket prices can be reduced.......

Stuart Shaw. Not sure if he ever played a match for Everton. Dropped down the leagues quite quick. And then disappeared off the radar.
Great team photo though. A young Billy Bingham at the front (met him a few times). . A gentleman.
And the Golden Vision also at the front. Great team.
