Old Everton Pictures

1931 - Dixie Dean hanging in the air in a 9-1 FA Cup win v Southport on a snow laden mud bath of a Goodison pitch it was seven nil at half time! Many fans thought the game would be called off the snow lade pitch was so bad -

Collins, Vernon, Bally ... there's a pattern with the Catt.
Just read that A young Bobby Collins playing for a Scottish amateur team was spotted by one of our scouts in the mid 1950s - the club agreed terms of £1000 & bobby and his father came to Goodison liked what the seen signed a letter agreed with the with terms and conditions to sign for Everton FC..... Celtic got wind of it offered the same & Bobby and his father backtracked and signed professional forms for Celtic - Everton threatened to goo to court but were advised the letter meant nothing they should have put it on an official registration form in stated of a letter as it was meaningless in those days the Scottish FA claimed = Everton that - Bobby went on to win most things for Celtic and was capped for Scotland - we then went back paying 40,000 plus in his supposed twilight years ... another mistake was letting him go to our rivals to be Leeds United -
Roy Vernon stated what a gem of a box to box midfielder -The was reason for selling he was too old ....another Catt Blunder-
Here is the great man challenging for the ball he had also a prlific goalscoring rate for us -

I suppose Harry was from a humble background and was brought up at a time when the boss's word was law and no argument. Blokes like Collins and Vernon were younger and stood up for themselves - and like Bally had a name for themselves. If you were a star and didn't crawl to the boss, you were looking at the exit. Shankly always struck me as a guy who was all bluster and yap but had a romantic heart for the game. Not sure that Harry did.

Didn't know the backstory to Collins. Thanks for that, @Joey66. We were a bloody disaster waiting to happen even in those days!

TBF the Catt was not responsible for the first signing hiccup.....but the rest is history.
I just missed him p!ay as you pointed out we were tottering on relegation regions when Collins signed betook us to 4 the position he like Bally never wanted to leave ....
The Catt was responsible for both those transfers ....pure madness......

Have that photo autographed by the great man. And framed. I'm looking at it just now. The autograph is properly authenticated. The photo is a page from some football annual. Own authenticated autographs of most of that 1969/70 team/squad. Even Tommy Jackson.......Frank D'arcy and Wilf Dixon. Actually searched for them. Probably paid over the odds for a few of them.
Could never find a Harry Catterick autograph though.......

Mick Meagan ..last game was April 1964.
He was not in the club squad the next season.
So my bible shows number 3 as Sandy Brown v Spurs..
Which was our 3rd game of that season.
Previous 2 games Ramon Wilson played at number 3.
That was the end of August .
Possibly injured then because he didn't play again till December .

Bally he scored a fair bit from midfield -

great photo.......great stuff. My first footballing hero. (As a youngster I was devastated when he left.....just could not believe it when told).
There haven't been many actual footballing hero's over the years. Being honest here.........the list is not that big. But selective.
Alan Ball......Colin Harvey........Howard Kendall.(the trinity).......Mike Lyons.........Bob Latchford........Big Nev.....Andy Gray........Peter Reid.......and George Best.(that's a N.Ireland thing). All players that I've been privileged to see play. Boy And man. And believe me the mid 1980s period was a blast......
Not just naming players for the sake of it. Those would be my all time favourites. Note........no player from about 1995 on........

Great goal but you know what, if we scored that goal these days good old VAR would probably have taken three minutes to disallow it for handball by the GV!
notice that the commentator did not even hint that it could have been handball. Never mind what VAR would do.........the half-@@##@ present day pundits/commentators would be screaming foul play from the rafters. ( who needs var with those clowns about).
Now if the rs scored that goal........it would be world class. Does Var apply to them??. Mini rant now over.......
