I've posted about that photo before.

It is an absolute disgrace that the club did not have a proper team photo taken with the squad that won those trophies. For Gray not to be on it, and Lineker to be on it, was shambolic on the part of the club.

And that wasn't a great team. Everything was Lineker-centric. If he wasn't scoring, we were faltering. I'll never forget the Oxford United away game. 0-0 late in the second half, Lineker clean through - misses. We end up losing 0-1. End of title. The next season, without him, goals came from everywhere, and we won the title again.
Understand what you are saying. Maybe saying they were great was OTT. But they weren't that bad a team. But off course they fell short.
Linekar's goals were great. But he still needed ten other players on the pitch with him. 57 league goals scored by players other than Linekar. 15 cup goals scored by other players........10 league matches won when Linekar failed to score. And second in the league. Runners up in the FA cup. And not so great a run in our bogey cup.... Not bad for a one man team.
But believe me.........there was nobody more disappointed than me that we didn't win something that season.........even the double was on. But to fall short was disappointing............I agree. Up The Toffees.........

We simply altered our game to suit Lineker for his pace - the season after we used our midfield more and the goals were spread more evenly .......we used a huge squad of players in 1987 too -

And blew everything in only two matches. The cup final defeat. And losing that match to Oxford. Maybe add in a sloppy draw away to Forest. And an away defeat to Luton Town. All matches we should have won.
Disappointing ........yes. Of course it was........ Fine margins.(although the cup final defeat was disappointing. We didn't turn up...

I remember almost everything about that season. Was at most home matches. We were shabby in a few matches. But nowhere near as bad as some are making out...........
Who knows........we might have still won the league the following year if Linekar had remained. Who knows?
Just a little fact.........we won the same amount of league matches in 1985/86 that we did in 1986/87. And I think we drew the same amount. So everything identical.
The RS just outpaced us in that 85/86 season. But losing to Luton and Oxford didn't help. We.... I suppose shot our selves in the foot........ouch.
