Old Everton Pictures

Everton supporters are ecstatic at Carrow Road in May 1987, many of them jumping onto a floodlights pylon, to celebrate a second league title in three seasons. The Merseysiders sealed the title with a 1-0 win over Norwich, thanks to a goal from Pat Van Den Hauwe. These were wonderful times to be an Everton fan, with Howard Kendall leading the Merseyside giants to their fourth major success in as many season. It's surprising to think that Everton haven't won the title in the 27 years since

It's been a long time yes might be longer but the shower of sh## across the park have spent millions and they're in the same boat.not bitter just factual.

Even now I can't quite work out that day

Fully agree. I half-expected the semi-final loss to City but the defeat to WBA was a shocker. Rainy day, clever but limited opposition and a lot of our stars never showed up. Plus a couple of missed half-chances especially Husband.

Thanks for posting that great picture of the team being applauded on returning.

I had that sinking WBA feeling a bit following the Lecister game. We are still far from being anywhere good enough and miles from that 1968 vintage.

I can remember back to 1973 then my late father was so proud of me travelling to St Helens Tech on day release by my firm doing the old city and guilds stage 1+2 which I passed with distinction i must say! over 4 years term time and it was in the echo that EFC were sending players there on some business course, keep your eye out for autographs etc , but I only went every Tuesday i looked in the massive canteen not a sign of any of them I was about 17 ish 8am -8pm every Tuesday - then block weeks away in Lancashire Garstang - student antics hard work but fun - four years to get a trade now it's a crash course in NVQs!
cheaper of course, but top tradesmen in every genre are fast disappearing - old school I call them - still some good younger ones around just harder to find now -
It was a massive Tech then is it still there on the same scale? as Liverpool in those days had very little!

NELTEC on Muirhead avenue plus a few others, all part of Wilsons Labour Gov. He being MP for Huyton
I was there with John Rodgers of CADWA and Wigan. All subjective of course and it shows that players develop at different rates...or don't but at that time there were 3 or 4 players there, his equal, that didn't make the grade. Peter Withe for one

I of course meant Gerry Withe, Peters older brother

Thanks mate but can't take credit for the photo!
What I do remember vividly was my dad's reaction when he came back from the Sunderland home game just after the final to finish the season. I had not been allowed to go on a school night but was still awake when he came in. He was over the moon with the atmosphere at that game. Apparently the crowd were wonderfully forgiving especially to Husband. Singing "goodison's better than Wembley" and "we're not going home" until the players came back on the pitch to take a bow. No lap of appreciation in those days haha. A cracking and very young side that grew into a truly fabulous one in 1969-70.
I still have great hopes and optimism for this emerging side. Got to toughen up a lot though when we don't have the ball!!!
