Street decorations during the World Cup, Claudia Street, Liverpool, 1966."

The 1966 World Cup football championship was held in England. England beat Germany 4-2 in the final. In Claudia Street, near Goodison Park ground where some of the matches were played, neighbours made paper flowers from red, white and blue crepe paper. Kerbstones were painted and windows were decorated. ‘The Brazilians had arrived and this was the tribute to the world champions from thousands of soccer fans who have had their own taste of greatness in recent years.’"

EVERTON 1993/94

Ex-City boss Mike Walker’s Toffees preserved Everton’s proud tradition of not being relegated from the top flight since 1954. Walker’s strugglers had to beat Wimbledon’s ‘Crazy Gang’ at Goodison Park on the final day and also rely on results elsewhere. The Dons were 2-0 up early on before former Norwich loanee Graham Stuart dragged one back from the penalty spot. Barry Horne then drew the hosts level and Stuart’s speculative long range shot squirmed past Hans Segers to spark bedlam on the blue half of Merseyside.

Everton hero Graham Stuart is kissed by a fan as he runs from the pitch after the match, after scoring two goals against Wimbledon in his sides victory over Wimbledon. The result prevented Everton from being relegated from the FA Premiership.

My dad took me in 68 and the scenes at Euston after the game were brilliant, Evertonians were drinking, singing and dancing. Most people thought we had won the cup that day.

Even now I can't quite work out that day. It was a disaster for the Allezlesbleus family. Missed connections, missed trains defeat, late to match etc etc. and yet I remember being dragged around various stations on the way back to getting an all nighters train to Liverpool Lime St meeting groups of Everton fans singing through the night. Proof if ever I needed it that we are actually quite mental and have something going on in our heads that transcends winning trophies.
I actually saw a similar reaction after being beaten by the Rs in 2012. I was gobsmacked and comatose having fluffed our lines on the national stage in a way that left me absolutely gutted. And yet loads of Blues were bouncing back after a few drinks and looking forward to the next match, singing songs and just loving being a blue. amazing love for the Blues beyond the results.

Peter Scott and Dai the Drop at the back!!
I can remember back to 1973 then my late father was so proud of me travelling to St Helens Tech on day release by my firm doing the old city and guilds stage 1+2 which I passed with distinction i must say! over 4 years term time and it was in the echo that EFC were sending players there on some business course, keep your eye out for autographs etc , but I only went every Tuesday i looked in the massive canteen not a sign of any of them I was about 17 ish 8am -8pm every Tuesday - then block weeks away in Lancashire Garstang - student antics hard work but fun - four years to get a trade now it's a crash course in NVQs!
cheaper of course, but top tradesmen in every genre are fast disappearing - old school I call them - still some good younger ones around just harder to find now -
It was a massive Tech then is it still there on the same scale? as Liverpool in those days had very little!
