Joe Royle's debut 1966 -

Just to clarify that young Joe's debut was in January 1966. A cold winters day. Someone didn't proof read before publication Presume it's a Royle auto biography. Reckon that bottom pic is later than 1966. Maybe 68/69?

Yeah it was a 60s song so I didn't think Bob was right. I'm sure I heard it sung in the 60s but I was a very young lad trying to survive in the boys pen so I never gave it my full attention. May esoteric of the older lads know

The band were called Steam. I bought the record, big hit. It was Colin Harvey if my memory is correct.

We never looked back after that loss & spotted a certain Alan Ball ...... who ran rings around us ......in our defeat -

The first goal was a calamity a gentle pass back at the Kop end that the hapless goalie let trickle through his legs. Bally laughed all the way back to the centre circle for the restart lol Yeah Catt had an eye for the up and coming superstar for sure.

Correct TT ...15th january to be precise, 1966 an important year in our footballing history......Alan Ball signed for us in the August after winning the World Cup for England......
