Old Everton Pictures

I was at many of those games in 1970 beat out Revie's Leeds by a fair margin if I remember correctly. Sad about his Dad that.
Hard fought 3-2 at home early in 69-70 season when Leeds were champions, lost 2-1 away in December in the head to heads but won by 9 points which was 4 wins and a draw for younger Blues. Pretty conclusive. They were really strong but we were magnificent that year. Cup exits aside.

We played 7 games in August that year 9th ...to 30th won 6 drew 1 in a season when it was 42 league games.
Get this lads...the final run in to becoming Champions was from January 10th ...One loss...Five draws and a very impressive NINE wins...
To cap it all the last nine games were 8 Wins on the bounce and the final game of the season a 0-0 draw away to Sunderland and we was there

.....love that last picture of Ball with his dad, Alan Ball snr. Ball idolised his dad. I met him at Everton supporters club the night we won the league in 1970. Ball snr got his sons winners medal from his pocket and let me touch it which was a great thrill for a footy mad 13 year old.

If I remember rightly his dad was killed in a car crash whilst abroad.
Funny seeing him wearing 2 watches.

What a majestic and classy directors and players entrance that used to be as shown in one of the photos above. We oozed class in those days.

Yeah Sunniways,Crown and Home James were the main coaches. But getting to know so many lads that always did the away games and mostly stood around the same areas in the Street End we started to hire our own from Ribble out of Skelhorne Street Depot .,Punch and Judy on the corner of Skel and Lime Street for breakfast before we set off.....Memory Lane indeed
There was a coach firm used to go from the valley, can't think of the name off the top of my head, was always a massive scally crew from there, bit of a forrunner of barnes, always an atventure on them,
Leicester one year they had taken to throwing the skylights out of the coach roof, big orange plastic things about three foot square and lashing them at the motorbike coppers giving us an escorts, the police nearly turned us around and missed the game, gave us a lecture and kept us there till three o'clock. , then a mad scramble to get in for kickoff

Clinched it on evening of 1st April 1970 2-0 home versus WBA Whittle and Harvey a truly magical night, nearly 60000 in Goodisson. Remember going home and being allowed to stay up and see Celtic Leeds European Cup semi final highlights on telly while having chips and cream soda!!! Two matches in one night, a rare treat especially on a school night.
