Old Everton Pictures

A disconsolate and furious Westy slopes after the ball which won West Bum the Cup in 68. Hopefully Pickford doesn't have to do something similar this evening.

....being kind, Dave Hickson was a bit nuts. He managed a team I played for and in dark nights we’d train on concrete tennis courts with floodlights. 5 a side to finish, Dave joined in and he thought nothing of sliding on the concrete if he had a chance of scoring. Very quiet and humble but a bit crazy on the pitch.
Played against him a few times..
Tough man to get anywhere near him with the ball at his feet...
But always had good words to say at the final whistle.....
A right gentleman ,as one would expect off a Evertonian...

...terrific, fascinated to know more about when you played against him?

I got to know him a bit, I’d come from playing for a top club when I worked with him but my folks were still in awe when he rang the house to talk about our next game. He loved John Willie Parker, said they both should’ve played for England but the team was picked by committee in those days.

Back in the late 60,s early 70,s as I remember in a Cheshire Cup game.
We were just a mere gang of lads that started a sunday league team and went from strength to strength in the birkenhead sunday league that literally thrashed everybody in our first season.
Of course to play against and be on the same pitch as Dave Hickson was unbelievable.
Ellesmere Port Social I recall as being their name.
Sincerely our lads were welcomed back at their place after the match and a great afternoon ensued.
