I used to get that magazine every week for many years. At the beginning of each season they gave out league ladders to update after every game. Memories.

I remember Charlie Buchan's Soccer Weekly. Did Jimmy Hill take it over?

I got the reason for Gordon Banks not playing in 1970 wrong, but does anybody remember a player leaving the squad
because his dad died and he wanted to attend the funeral, and I often thought what I would have done in his place.

.......I remember Charlie Buchan's albumn as a regular Christmas present. I can't think who might have left that 1970 squad, although I think Jeff Astle was involved so perhaps he was called in to replace somebody.

Gordon Banks was the player in question.He was released from the squad and allowed to go home.Gordon West was due to take his place being 2nd choice but he got injured and Peter Bonetti took his place.

Disregard the above post,i have since found out it was the year before during Englands tour of S.America that Gordon Banks went home from Mexico due to his fathers demise.
