Old Everton Pictures

I think this is v Blackpool...... yeah just found the photo in "Everton Football Club" by Ric George published by Liverpool Echo in the 1980s. The caption to that reads "Fred Pickering in an aerial duel against Blackpool"
Certainly is Blackpool as that is the great Tony Waiters coming out two fisted to support the cause. Passed away at the back end of 2020.

Did he not play for the other lot over the park?
No way! He was at BFC before Westy, lost his place to him, then took over the reigns after he went to Everton. Great keeper and as Eggs mentioned played for England a few times.

Was manager of Vancouver Whitecaps when ex Tangerine team mate Alan Ball and Roger Kenyon helped them win their only North American League title in 1979.
Good picture below of that time, lots of famous ex players from the UK on there including Rog and Waiters far right with the luxuriant moustache.

….yep, I always thought Waiters was an ideal size/shape for a keeper. He was very good.

Great photo, some famous old names on there (played against Ray Lewington myself). That looks a group of blokes who would enjoy each other’s company.
