Met Billy Bingham a few times. Had a few short talks with him about Everton. Was surprised that he was actually up to date on how Everton were doing. It was around the time when Cahill and the Yak were with us. Billy Bingham rhymed of the whole team. And how he would have set them up.

Anyhow I’ll not bore everyone by going over his Everton career. We all know how he was for Everton. I’ll just state one thing that always sticks in my mind about him. He brought the great George Best back into the N.Ireland fold. I think it was around 1977/78. Best played a few matches. Then went awol yet again. Even Bingham couldn’t save him. But he did try.
Was also involved in George Bests funeral. Think out off the guys that carried Bests coffin. Only the great Pat Jennings is still around. Sorry for being so morbid. But doesn’t time fly.

Always liked Mr. Bingham. Not just because he once played for and then managed Everton. But because he was a household name here in N.Ireland. He wasn’t that bad a player. He could play a wee bit. And brought a few decent players into Everton as well. RIP…..Mr. Bingham.

Brighton match report(in two parts) from their programme for the following game after a 4-3 defeat at Goodison in December 1980,does anybody remember being at the game? I was a bit surprised at how low they said the crowd was (I was only a kid at the time, but I can remember being at this game with my Dad),I know our crowds did dip that low in seasons to come, but I don't remember them being as low as this in 1980? Maybe it's a misprint as the excellent Everton results site has a figure that's 4000 higher than that.
Us v Wimbledon away in the early days of the Premiership, 3,300 attendance at plough lane ......
